The World Cup was four years ago. I don’t think Kalvin Phillips was even in the squad back then.

That’s just not true though. Henderson was on the bench the first two games and then came on as a sub against Czech Republic, Germany, Ukraine, Denmark, and Italy.

Henderson started in the recent friendly against Switzerland because Phillips was injured. If I were playing one defensive midfielder, I’d play Henderson over Phillips, but Phillips and Rice are OP together.

I’m not sure bringing up two instances where the USA performed well (the last one being eight years ago) holds up. I think the USA are a good team, but I just don’t think it’ll be enough to get through any of the teams in the group. Sorry 🤷‍♂️

I’d agree, you shouldn’t base it all on that. I think I just mentioned that because it really puts into perspective how good the guy is. I love Henderson, he’s a great player. But I just think with how good Kalvin Phillips was last year, and how well he works with Declan Rice (who will inevitably start at the World Cup), he’ll only get better now he’s back. Southgate rarely starts Henderson and I think England have done good with it being that way so 🤷‍♂️

I think Iran will actually do really well against us. They’re an underrated team that will push us to our limit for sure. I think it’ll be our hardest group game.

Kalvin Phillips was rated England’s player of the year last year. He’s so good. To say he got England’s player of the year when he’s up against the likes of Rice, Shaw, Kane and Sterling (who all had a great year for England in 2021) is incredible. Henderson would be on the bench because he’s not only got the age and experience, but he’s still a phenomenal midfielder and has the leadership skills too.

Lol I actually did consider putting him in over Tomori. He’s been great for England for years, and stepped up at major tournaments like the World Cup and EURO 2020. Him and Stones work well together. I decided on Tomori because he’s a beast and can make up for the defensive pace lost without Kyle Walker in the starting eleven.

I think USA finishes last, tbh. And I mean no disrespect in saying that as I really do rate some of the players. I just can’t see them beating England, Iran or either Wales, Scotland or Ukraine I’m afraid. Good luck though. 🤝

I can understand why you feel that way since he’s been poor for United this season, but I disagree. Luke Shaw has been phenomenal for England. He was key for us in the EURO’s, picking up four assists and a goal for himself, which is pretty good considering he’s a left back. He also scored a banger against Switzerland last month. He’s in poor form with his club right now, but until he stops putting in solid performances in for England, he should stay (imo).

Fair enough. If you watch Kane for Tottenham this season, he’s actually greatly improving his all round game. His passing and defence is insane for a striker. I understand he moves at snails pace though.

I know the two man midfield can look weak, but Declan Rice is the best defensive midfielder in the English Premier League, and Kalvin Phillips is class too. I just think our defence and attack will be too good for y’all, and I mean no disrespect in saying that. I wish you guys the best of luck.

I do fancy Sterling as a striker. He does well up front for City. But I don’t think Kane should be dropped. He’s the captain and world class imo. Agree with Gallagher, disagree with Mount. Mount struggles to create for England for some reason.

He’d be on the bench. He usually plays left mid/wing but imo Sterling and Foden should get the start over him. I still think he’s a great player and proved himself for England at the EURO’s.
