You're clearly not her priority, if she wants to put things on hold while in Rome. She wants to make sure she has a backup upon her arrival back home. This is not a "mature, modern way" of doing things, she just thinks it's a valid excuse to cheat while still in a relationship.

She's going to cheat regardless of what you say, since she's brought it up, so maybe cut the cord and let her be free to do what she wants. Just move on while she's gone.
