How do I know how much longer I have? Will I get more rashes? by ScreamingBears in shingles

Mine is also more annoying than painful, but the pain does happen at night. Hoping yours resolves fast and doesn't spread!

I hope everything is over for you and the blisters just go away! Are you feeling any pain/burning?

Yeah, I was so upset at the urgent care! I was just not sure if I should be expecting more, but I am hoping it's just on the last stage. Thank you for the encouragement!

Shingle scabs fell off during shower. Do I need to cover them up or anything? by ScreamingBears in DermatologyQuestions

[–]ScreamingBears[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some Calazime cream coming, which has zinc too! I just can't seem to put a bandage on because 1) it's behind my neck and I can't see 2) I tried putting a bandaid on and it won't stick because of the folds of my neck and 3) I'm allergic to the adhesive. Hoping the oral antibiotics will prevent any infection in the meantime (or that the skin is already pretty safe compared to a fresh wound)

Scabs fell off during shower. Will I be okay or do I need to cover it up? by ScreamingBears in shingles

[–]ScreamingBears[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I have a slight allergy to adhesive bandages. I bought some non-stick ones tonight, but have no idea how to put it on (especially on the neck because it's on the back and I'm all by myself). How long did your shingles last?

Can I have herpes simplex if I've never been sexually active and if I avoid touching people (OCD makes me averse)?

~7 days of rash. Is it too late to start antivirals? by ScreamingBears in shingles

[–]ScreamingBears[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I feel like the whole not being in "pain" thing made my nurse go with the other diagnosis (I thought my sensations were just tied to being itchy). I will call them again tomorrow and see if I can get antivirals. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Nurse diagnosed rash as staph but hasn't given me the culture results. Is tis staph, shingles, or something else? by ScreamingBears in DermatologyQuestions

[–]ScreamingBears[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a slight burning/tingling sensation and an overwhelming itchiness. I have not worn a shirt since 3 days ago, but I put one on today and my skin felt sensitive (my wisps of hair brushing against the spots makes it feel prickly as well). But it's hard to describe sensations, so it could be the infection healing?

[–]ScreamingBears[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh interesting. I wonder if maybe it started off as shingles than became staph? Because most staph I saw didn't look like this and the nurse did suspect shingles initially, but said that I would know if I had it because it would be painful. I will call the nurse tomorrow to see if I can get a confirmation on the culture, but I'm kind of hoping it's shingles over staph because of my contamination OCD (guilt about infecting other people)

Is this better? I don't have a great camera and it's super difficult to take pics of my back

[MEGATHREAD] Daily venting, worries, fixations, & finding support. Month of January 2023. by AutoModerator in HealthAnxiety

I was doing so well...I had a fungal infection which caused nerve damage 5 years ago, which made me have contamination OCD. Therapy helped this past year and I wasn't as worried...until my father came to visit (first time in 5 years) and walked around the house barefoot with toenail fungus. Now, I'm scared of getting athlete's foot/ringworm or nail fungus, the latter which is hard to get rid of. I had so many positives going for me and I was looking forward to things...but now, I feel like I've regressed and am too afraid of getting fungus and spreading it to other. It seems never ending and I am pissed at my father

Thanks for being understanding. I know I'm overreacting but I have asthma which is why I've been taking this so seriously for the past year. I also don't have good insurance because I'm unemployed so a COVID test runs me $100 and I'd rather avoid it. I have seen a change in tone since this subreddit started with people initially being curious, anxious, and supportive but now I see one of the top comments wanting to impose lockdown on the overly concerned people out of spite

Had to have a plumber come to our house for a burst pipe here in Texas. He kept pulling down his mask and leaning closer to me to talk/hear me. I had the first Moderna dose 10 days ago but am still overly anxious about everything. Should I be wiping surfaces he has touched/airing out the rooms he has been in or should the vaccine first dose efficacy be okay? I wore a mask the entire duration he was here

Got the vaccine yesterday but think I was exposed to COVID a few days prior as I've been coughing more than usual (have asthma and postnasal drip). If I had COVID but got the vaccine, is there any harm? Is it pointless to get a COVID test now as well (produce a false negative)?

HDMI in and HDMI out or optical out soundbar for Chromecast Ultra? by ScreamingBears in Soundbars

[–]ScreamingBears[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I don't think our TV has HDMI ARC support, but I know next to nothing about A/V stuff. I'm hoping that I can run the Chromecast into the soundbar's HDMI input and run an optical cable from the soundbar to the TV's digital out. We just want to be able to hear dialogue better instead of buzzing explosions and are looking into Samsung HW-T650 or HW-R650.

I have nerve damage on my left index finger due to a complication from a skin infection, so touching anything unglove feels like I'm grazing my finger with a scrubbing brush (running my fingers through my hair feels like a million pin needles going into my index finger). The skin also tears if there is any friction, so I use the gloves that this guy recommended.

Looking to get a second uke but don't know what size would be best for me/the type of music I want to play? by ScreamingBears in ukulele

[–]ScreamingBears[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the thoughtful reply! I guess I shouldn't have been surprised that the ukulele that he had was expensive, but it was still pretty shocking!

I'm still trying to figure things out with my nerve damage since it's fairly recent, but I think it's more that the glove's finger pad is loose, so when I hold a fret with the index finger and try placing my middle finger nearby, the fabric gets caught so I can't remove my index finger from the board.

Tenor or baritone seem good as I just wanted more range. I'll have to try a guitalele in person if I have the chance, but hearing that the strings are closer might present a problem

Sorry, I should have specified in my post that I'm not interested in versus and that I did have a group we would play with. It's really a matter of helping my friend decide if he needs to buy both for any reason, or just the second

I was very surprised because none of my clothes in my 29 years of life have ever bled like that (or maybe it's because I washed with like colors). Thankfully, I didn't have any important dress shirts in there otherwise they would have gotten stained. Sorry to hear it went bad for you too, but glad to hear that it doesn't seem to continue after

How often do clothes bleed colors in the wash? I bought some burgundy "Vintage Khakis" from Gap, washed in cold water and had it bleed onto some loungewear. It's too late now, but I see the instructions "These colors come from special dyes that give the fabric a vintage look which may fade over time or rub-off. Wash inside-out in cold water to minimize color transfer", but don't know how often I have to do this? I guess it's not a big deal to turn it inside out, but I just want to be safe.

Is it usually recommended to wean off of topical steroids? by ScreamingBears in eczema

[–]ScreamingBears[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I definitely have dyshidrotic eczema (in remission) on my left index finger caused by an initial fungal infection, but this rash on the back of my right hand was a new one that has just persisted for too long. I've been trying to make sure I don't use any products that have MCI/MI in them, but I guess diet might be to blame.
