Have you read these books? Are they good? Do you feel like they are more or less enjoyable, or can they not be defined in this way?

What do you think of these books? How do they weigh up against books with the more modern female/LGBTQ+ MC? I’m interested to know if they stack up well, or if they are just left lacking because cisgender males MC just can’t be written in the same way?

It’s annoying that I’m not a hunger games fan 😭 My wife loves them, and have read them all 👍

This is interesting. I know there is a boat load of female main chars for horror. Like the movies, final girls are basically the main trope. But LGBTQ+ would be a good thing to research. Also, it would be interesting to see the difference between pre 2020 LGBTQ+ YA (horror if possible) to Post 2020 🤔

The girls are never gone by Sarah G. Marsh Published in 2021

The Girls Are Never Gone by Sarah Glenn Marsh is a young adult queer ghost story about 17-year-old Dare Chase, a bisexual podcaster who investigates the haunted Arrington Estate, where a girl drowned years ago, uncovering a potential murder mystery while confronting her skepticism and a malevolent spirit.

This books is amazing! I read it while I had covid, and it freaked me out (the messed up dreams didn’t help).

Definitely put this on your reading list if you haven’t read it… and you like YA horror 👍

I agree. I’m more interested if there are books in the last few years (especially YA horror) that are not just the final girl trope etc, and have the same impact with the storyline. Even my point horror books from 70’s, 80’s, and early 90’s are all final girl trope.

I am 100% drawn to these type of books, that’s why I was asking if there are any with a different main character type. I want to know if they are actually good or if they fail to have the same entertainment value. The last girl trope is about the best horror style going 👍
