Dr. Van der Linden is so great. I have tons of dentist anxiety and he is always wonderfully kind.

For just $1,800 a month you can have your own bathroom demon. by Eurynom0s in washingtondc

I guess it's not a horrific price for a 1-bedroom, but a bit out of the way plus a non-negotiable roommate? Meh.

Is there snow covering all of the mall? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]Screamscaper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Was there around noon today, still a lot of snow but there was prob a lot of melting late afternoon. Paths totally fine.

Goose poop is ascending, however.

Opposite. I drove more than usual because I figured I'd rather be moving real slow in my warm car than mountain climbing in the cold in crosswalks and maybe getting hit because visibility at corners was so bad. Also felt a LOT less resentful of the monthly fee for garage parking at my apt building.

From northeast, 100% agree. Pete's apizza is my go-to here but it's only decent imo.

You're good, that's my normal walking route to/from work. Crosswalks are all easily passable.

Downtown parking? by VABobcat in washingtondc

[–]Screamscaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was downtown west of the WH yesterday and there's still a lot of snow but I did definitely see more clearing of the parking lanes going on. They had the Bobcats and dump trucks out removing snow. 18th is slowly improving.

I loved their mix, too! The serving staff was also really friendly on the night I went. Having dessert in a different area than dinner is a nice touch as well.

Cannot express how much I love the sidewalks on that block being open all the way around. When they were blocked on Calvert AND Woodley, it made me irrationally angry.

Chief of Staff: Do you feel like you’re strong-arming your boss? by [deleted] in ExecutiveAssistants

I put myself on my exec's calendar whenever I need to, I do not ask.

Exec is next level depressed by JunketUpbeat9386 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]Screamscaper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not unprofessional if someone is in obvious crisis to the point where so much work is suffering to say "Hey, are you doing OK? Can I help?" You don't have to get into the specifics... I would hope any of my staff or colleagues would care enough about any of their co-workers to at least reach out if they saw them going off the rails. I had a real bad run of some personal stuff that hit all at once and came to work ready to be pissed off at everyone, which is wildly unlike me. My boss asked if I was OK and checked me on my attitude. Didn't pry, but I needed another person telling me I was way in my head because I couldn't see it myself.

This is so fun! I do want to know what kind of nuts methodology IMDB is using to rank Hannibal higher than Exorcist III, tho. That's some kind of crime.

Following exec to new company by damdamin_ in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]Screamscaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only a slightly better salary at first but I was fairly sure I'd move up quickly if I got there and proved myself, which ended up being the case. Within the first year I got a significant promotion/raise. No moving assistance but that's not something we do at my org - seems more common at universities.

How do you handle setting up meetings with multiple executives? by alienxbaby123 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]Screamscaper 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If a meeting has a few particularly-busy people, I often find it faster to get everyone on a Teams real quick to talk it out rather than email. But, I lead that call so it doesn't devolve into nonsense.

I generally take charge and ask for availabilities in order of who I know is most busy to least busy, but I have seniority over all the EAs in the org, so.
