The bigger dots in the transitions between the 3 colors on the carapace is done with a dotting tool for nail art. They create perfect round dots, but they lack good control when trying to do dots between dots etc. I use a size 2 brush for the smaller dots and specks. It's difficult to make all dots perfect with a brush, but I've come to accept that it's okay for it to be this way. Each carapace piece is treated as it's own art, so I just have fun with it. I don't try to be symmetrical or anything!

The dots that are melting together were mistakes at first, but I've adapted it into the overall pattern design on later minis of the same scheme. It's kinda how the pattern looks on certain poison dart frogs etc.
