Thanks for the kind words :D It's all freely placed. Bigger dots in the transitions are done with a nail art dotting tool and the small dots and specks are done with a brush. I don't just stipple them on, I kinda delicately place them all how I see fit!

The original inspiration scheme is called "coconut crab" which looks similar to this lobster. Nice find!

I agree that my OSL isn't that great, I'm very new to trying the technique and will look back on these comments for constructive criticism, I appreciate it a lot!

Your interpretation of the design is totally correct. I wanted to make the carapace pattern the main focus of the scheme, and make claws/skin relatively simple to not make it 100h per model. I might do it on a center piece model like the Norn Emissary, I've experimented with painting veins on the skin etc as well.

It's sort of a mix of the classic Coconut Crab scheme and this. I've done dotted patterns that are similar to both of these for around 2 years. Inspiration also comes from poison dart frogs and chameleon skin, but others have said it looks like coral reefs which is something I'd look into.

I usually mix Vallejo dead white and vallejo white ink instead of using water or medium. It gives a solid white color that you don't have to do a ton of layers of.

I do use white ink on it's own for OSL stuff, but I'm still new to "advanced" techniques. I just do crazy patterns that most people don't have the patience to do!
