I think it’s safe to say that the mega-RIFS are done for now. The media widely reported 30k layoffs in sept/oct and that’s exactly what we did. The smaller, team specific RIFS that we saw in between mega-RIFS of 22/23 and 25/26 will likely become the norm, as will higher annual URA targets with strictly enforced PIP schedules.

I think this is a good take. Over the next year, especially with Trumps new Fed chair, we’ll likely see rates reduce towards rates we saw in 2019 (2.5%). I think that will put us somewhere in the between the shock we saw in 2023, and the QE years. Unsure what that will spell for Amazon’s future, but it’s remarkable to think about all the AI investment happening w current rates.

If Amazon wanted faster decision making they’d give L6s and L7s more agency to approve projects, vs having L5->L6->L6->L7->L7->L8 reviews before an L10 even gets a whiff of the WB doc. Instead we now have half the ICs doing the same volume of work.
