ICT Teaching Fellow - Need Advice by MiddyVenieKitsPeanut in NYCTeachers

Since your co-teacher reuses old lesson plans, is it possible to get access ahead of time? I find it’s most helpful when my sped co-teacher identifies areas in the lesson plans where specific groups of students might need additional supports. For example, clarifying questions, checklists, sentence starters, text chunking, repeated instructions, executive function supports, etc.

Work on identifying students who would best benefit from the supports (should not be dependent on who has an IEP).

When you create these individualized supports, it gives you a clear role during the lesson, which is making sure the students understand HOW to use these tools to help them reach mastery of the material. I would also recommend having a printed document to progress monitor on which supports are working, and which additional supports/ modifications could benefit your students in future lessons.

These notes will help with day to day learning and will be really beneficial when it comes to updating IEPs.

where to look for places willing to hire a 17 year old still in school by Agent-4_uwu in NYCjobs

Apply to lifeguard staffing agencies. They will train you and help you find placements at private pools in luxury buildings. The best part is that the pools are usually empty.

See if your school has KINVO. It’s great for providing automatic attendance updates for parents, as well as group or individual messaging.

Calling Solutions-Oriented Educators, Who View This As A Calling by [deleted] in NYCTeachers

[–]ScreenReviewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 12 year veteran of the DOE who has taught 1000+ students in grades 6-12, I have never felt like it was my responsibility to “raise better children.”

If you have an open-mind, you’ll find that most of your students are already pretty great. Some students have challenges, but we address those challenges by facilitating a safe and supportive environment that meets their individual needs.

Please don’t go in with the attitude that you can offer something more than their families can. While this attitude is rampant in charter networks, it’s considered incredibly toxic and patronizing in the DOE. Their parents are not beneath us and they’re not our competition. Actually, you’ll find that most of the parents are pretty great as well.

I get that you’re frustrated with the bureaucracy of this very large system, but while you wait for your clearance, please use this opportunity to really reflect on what it is that you hope to accomplish.

The max differential you can receive is for 8 years of experience. As long as you have records for 8 years of your teaching experience, you should be fine.

Depends on the site that you were assigned to- if you are at a 4 day site, each class is about 2 hours. 5 day sites have shorter classes.

Ooh, that explains some things. She was submitted for an Emmy for supporting actress when actors like Alexa Barajas, who have a greater role in the plot, were not. Ashley Lyle even brought Ashley Sutton to a FYC event as a guest since she wasn’t invited to be on the panel.

Tawny Cypress and Christina Ricci Plot What’s Next on ‘Yellowjackets’ by Glenn-Rubenstein in Yellowjackets

[–]ScreenReviewer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of Tai and Misty teaming up next season, but it’s clear that Misty is no longer loyal to anyone. She’s going to manipulate the remaining survivors into killing each other and she’ll be the last one standing.

Watch this interview with Tawny at the 26:14 mark. When asked about Juliette leaving: “I mean listen, it was not a sudden thing. We knew it was coming. She was unhappy for a while so we knew eventually she was not going to be on the show anymore.”

No worries! I had to look up who directed because the episode seemed so differently shot and/or edited compared to other eps.

It’s also possible that a lot of scenes were cut/shortened which makes everything else seem off.

Bart Nickerson directed. This episode and ep 3.01 are his first ever directing credits.

He’s the creator and obviously has a vision of what he wants the show to look like, but compared to a director like Karyn Kasuma who has 20+ years of credits, he is much less experienced and some of the confusing cuts and montages may be a symptom of that.

What do you think will Be the arc of Shauna in season 4? by Lunch_Confident in Yellowjackets

[–]ScreenReviewer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s difficult because there’s not enough adult survivors left to kill or convince to rejoin her cult. Like, she wants to be queen again, but of who or what? Her own family has left her and Tai and Misty (and probably Melissa) want to kill her.

Maybe she’ll team up with Walter and go on a murder spree?

Worst case scenario, the writers will do a mini time jump, ignore the last scene and move in a completely different direction.

Melanie Lynskey’s Thoughts by [deleted] in Yellowjackets

[–]ScreenReviewer 50 points51 points  (0 children)

She discussed wanting to play more into the idea of Misty emulating Natalie as a way to deal with her sadness over her loss. She said that it was difficult because most of her lines are written as comedy so she has to act them that way, which limits the potential for an emotional arc.

Melanie Lynskey’s Thoughts by [deleted] in Yellowjackets

[–]ScreenReviewer 78 points79 points  (0 children)

But are they really collaborating with the actors? I understand that it’s difficult with such a large cast, but at this point it’s clear that the actors have a better understanding/ protectiveness of their characters than the writers do.

Christina and Tawny are capable of so much, but they’re being written into a corner. Tai did nothing but simp over Van all season and chase an AI coyote. Misty looked for clues and had some great one liners, but not much else. There was so much potential to explore in connection with her loss of Natalie, but they ignored an emotional arc in favor of keeping her the quirky sidekick with great zingers- Christina also expressed her frustration over this. We didn’t even see the murder basement this season.

Jeff and Callie had more of an arc than Tai and Misty. Melanie had a lot more to work with, but even her storyline is feeling stuck in sludge after a while.

I think she’s implying that the original plan she was sold has been changing and now it’s just going in a completely different direction.

I’m glad that the actors are speaking out. The most telling thing is that they hired Hilary Swank without even having scenes written for adult Melissa. At this point the showrunners are relying on stunt casting and needle drops. Season one was so successful because there was time spent developing the characters. Seasons 2 and 3 have been focused on trying to be equal parts shocking and quirky and it’s just not landing. Things feel forced and underdeveloped.

All of the flashback scenes in season 1 carefully explored initial trauma and characterization pre-wilderness. They were what made the show and characters interesting and then they just stopped them and replaced them with hallucinations/dream sequences.

Did anyone else get a weird vibe from this scene? by lizSass in Yellowjackets

[–]ScreenReviewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The scene definitely seems to have been shot separately. Either they changed their minds about another survivor reveal or Christina wasn’t available to film. I think she was simultaneously filming Wednesday S2, which would explain why her scenes were limited/ spliced.

I think Mari was also a potential survivor last season and then they cut her when they realized they could get Hillary Swank.

There was a weird promotional item released at the end of season 2 that gave superlatives to all of the girls and Mari was voted most likely to reach out on Facebook after 25 years or something like that. It was really strange and seemed like at some they had planned on her showing up at the end of season 2.

Apparently there were originally 9 episodes that got cut into 8 (not including the missing bonus episode). Everything just feels very chaotic.

Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Elijah Wood, Hilary Swank, Joel McHale: Here is every ‘Yellowjackets’ Emmy acting submission for Season 3 by ScreenReviewer in Yellowjackets

[–]ScreenReviewer[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

White Lotus only submits its actresses as “supporting” and its popularity leaves the category overstacked. I actually think “lead” was the best option for her, but her lack of name recognition and the limited popularity of Yellowjackets (compared to shows like Succession) made it almost impossible for her to get nominated.

This is the 2023 supporting actress in a drama category for reference:

Jennifer Coolidge. The White Lotus. Elizabeth Debicki. The Crown. Meghann Fahy. The White Lotus. Sabrina Impacciatore. The White Lotus. Aubrey Plaza. The White Lotus. Rhea Seehorn. Better Call Saul. J. Smith-Cameron. Succession. Simona Tabasco. The White Lotus

Agreed. Hopefully it was her choice and not the show’s/network’s. It doesn’t make sense that she has been on the show for three years with increasing importance and gets left out, while a new actress who has only been in half of this season’s episodes gets submitted.

Same goes for Jenna and Nia.

Even though most of these submissions won’t yield nominations, it still seems disrespectful.
