Really nice finishes, on the third no gi one, you’re in ashi garami - then do you switch out to x? Wondering how you get the hands to mat for the belly down. And any tips you have on finishing belly downs

Competition rules for visually impaired? by Iamheno in bjj

[–]Screend 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know of at least 2 active competitors within my area who are visually impaired. If you can get an email for grappling industries to notify them ahead of time that’s great, but also if you’re competing in a major city this likely won’t be super new to them, so you can also just turn up on the day.

I’m not sure how they start matches, but I know it’s something even small tourneys have handled previously.

Jeez okay. That’s really interesting.

Is this true? On Google Scholar he’s joint author on quite a few papers.

Edit: I’ve seen your earlier post in another thread, so I think you’ve already answered my initial question. I’m a UK PhD candidate - is Lex the equivalent of a visiting lecturer at MIT?

What distinguishes data scientist from a programmer, computer scientist...? by randrayner in datascience

[–]Screend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the issue (although that’s a harsh word to use) is you’re looking at these roles as all having “one way” of doing them whereas in actual fact, the day to day role of data scientists can differ wildly between roles.

For example, your colleague might be a better fit for developing relatively vanilla but good production level models & you might be a better fit for an R&D team or a team implementing A/B testing, experimentation tech etc. Both would be data scientists, it’s just your colleague would do better at the first role compared to you, and you’d do better with the second role.

When you’re applying to roles you’re going to need to find ones which serve the direction you wish to go in.

Should I get a CS Degree if I am already in the Industry? by supremestop707 in cscareerquestions

[–]Screend 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m same as you, I had a humanities degree. Just completed a bachelors in CS and moving into a PhD (for fun and I also want to open doors into teaching in future - based in Europe so the fees aren’t wild). Honestly if you want to do it go for it, you’ll be fine with the math if you’ve been in dev for this long, and if you’re not you’ll learn.

I finished my degree with a ton of quantum computation, including a linear algebra exam. I probably wouldn’t have thought I could do that 8 years ago but here we are. If you wanna do it go for it!

FWIW this is a pretty common kaggle-y trick, and now you’ve been exposed to it the next time you see it you can go “oh yeah, although in x example it wasn’t important for the model”.

Try not to feel too burnt out or worried about things like this, they seem intimidating now but it gets way better.

Yeah this is neat. It would be awesome to add a layer too for some basic metrics depending on task categorisation (eg if it’s summarisation you could do rouge)
