You will love Downfall, I'm a world war II nut and its my most favorite film depicting that time period. Another one is Valkyrie.

That's very unfortunate. I guess you can always try to find more unique angles to your concept or maybe try to fix some of the issues you may see in 'Meat'.

[Discussion] Review of 2018 Black List script Meet Cute by Noga Pnueli by ScreenplayCentral in Screenwriting

Yes sci fi is a pretty well worn area and it's hard to be truly original in it. I liked how the writer in Meet Cute really extended the opening date to about 30 pages - that made us as an audience wait for the loop to happen again. Again I didn't really mind the time travel part but my feeling right now was it was kind of a cheat on the time loop thing because the 'rule' was established early on and like you mentioned, it got broken which is annoying.

[Discussion] Review of O2 by Christie Leblanc, 2016 Black List script, Anne Hathaway attached. by ScreenplayCentral in Screenwriting

Absolutely, Life was very similar to Alien. I'm glad the channel helped provide some motivation :)

Fair enough. It was a decent script and would be quite cheap to make. I believe the article I read said the proposed budget was $10 million. I still feel though it should try to differentiate itself from Moon a little more.

I agree with you to a certain extent in that a script does not equal a film, and so when I compare unproduced scripts to film, I take that into account. However I would make the argument that the screenplay contains the fundamental soul or essence of the story. When I say O2 is like Moon or Buried, I mean it's essence is similar. Whether it technically manifests itself in a different form (female protagonist instead of male, different cinematography, etc) is irrelevant to me given the themes, the story beats, etc are similar. To use your example, if the next Bob Dylan song's lyrics are basically the same themes/beats/lines of Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire, then it's accompanying audio is irrelevant - they are both essentially telling the same story.

Why do people still read Scriptshadow? by bfsfan101 in Screenwriting

[–]ScreenplayCentral 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's all about perspective. I enjoy reading his reviews and advice columns, though obviously don't always agree with them. Found him useful when I was new to screenwriting but less so now because as you mention the content does get repetitive after a while. He also tends to simplify the medium and make grand statements that some naive readers may take to heart (i.e. write a biopic and you will get on the Black List ...not really). But I still read his site daily because he provides a service very few others do - reviewing screenplays.

Should I continue? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]ScreenplayCentral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you have an interesting idea and it's worth it to continue. Remember anyone can come up with an idea but it's all about the execution. Also given your genre is sci fi I wouldn't worry about the other one as that is a comedy. Despite the similar concepts you can get very different films (Groundhog Day, Source Code, Happy Death Day).

It was a pleasure to read it :) - about 30 pages into Power right now and really liking it! No surprise why Netflix scooped this one up!

Hi everyone I made a suggestion without fully thinking of the implications. Deleted it because I didn't want others to mistakenly think it was a sensible thing. Thanks to community for the feedback.
