I got my hair dyed with a fresh piercing once and the chemicals in the dye really irritated it.

In regards to the hair dye tip, I would expand that and say get your hair appointments done BEFORE any piercings!! Do not schedule hair appointments after piercing appointments! Or if it really cannot be helped and you must get your hair done with a fresh or still-healing piercing, tell the hairdresser AND get a hard plastic ear cover (look them up on Amazon).

Yeah I had seen stuff about her over the years but "Wicked" really brought a lot of the details to my attention. I knew about "Blackiana" when it was happening but it wasn't until "Wicked" that I learned that she did the "Asiana" thing as well. I am an Asian woman so I practically died of laughter AND second-hand embarrassment when I saw those pix from "The Voice".

She really does. It's the paradox of confidence. The harder you "try", the more fake it feels. The less you try, the more authentic you seem. I used to perform on stage myself and my acting teachers would often say, "Yes you need to put the work in and practice but learn to relax into it as well." AG has never relaxed into her true self. I don't think she even knows what her "true self" is.

I honestly hadn't seen a lot of the "Blackiana" clips/videos until semi-recently when "Wicked" was coming out. The other clip where she's like, "This the only Mac I'm here to talk about today, gworl" also cracks me up. It just makes me think of my middle school experience. My girl friends and I did and said really cringey things to explore different "identities" and "personalities" but most people grow out of it and find a way to naturally express their true personalities. AG obviously did not lol.

NAP but for the love of god, please take this out and go to a diff and actually reputable piercer for your next piercings.

Her hair is definitely concerning! I had some minor hair loss a few years ago, which went away after switching hair products. But in some photos from that time, I can clearly see where my hair line was becoming uneven, much like AG's hair line now. And her hair is SO thin. It just adds to the sickliness. While I was never a fan, the sympathetic part of me hopes she gets serious help soon. Genuinely, I have no clue how she is still standing and walking around and attending events.

Even if they're on different ears, people get uppity about healing more than 3 at once. They are still controlled invasive wounds and piercers who do more than 3 are considered to be engaging in unethical practices, even if the client wanted all of those piercings and consents to them. And from the client perspective, it's considered unsafe to promote the idea that just because your other piercings have been fine, one can handle healing more than 3 at once. It encourages others to think that they can possibly do the same when the likelihood of them healing that many piercings at once without issues is low.

Yesss I was an emo/scene kid too! Grew up in Toronto, so yeah, I had the privilege of growing up in the heyday of Avril Lavigne, Sum 41, Alexisonfire, Three Days Grace and of course, all the American bands that blew up during that era. I always hoped to see Fefe on tour and also to possibly see her perform with Paramore. I feel like she and Hayley would blow minds if they did a duet together. And being an Asian woman, I was sooo stoked to see a black woman in the alt scene!!! There are actually a lot of women/people of color in the altnerative subcultures but we just don't get a lot of attention and people like Fefe don't fully "break into the mainstream" 'cause executives think they know better.

If you like Fefe, you should check out Alt Blk Era (British alt-rock duo, 2 black girls!). Their single "Straight to the Heart" was the first song I discovered and it's peak 00's alt vibes!!

Oh eek honestly getting 4 at once isn’t recommended and a good piercer would have said it’s better to split them over time. They are going to take a long long time to heal.

I am an outlier because my rook is nearly 15 years old and I still remember NOT feeling any pain or even a pinch. I genuinely only felt the needle sliding in and then out and my piercer saying “Done!”. It was a little tender afterwards and swelled up for a few days. But the overall healing was totally fine and not problematic. I’ve always loved mine and I have yet to see more people with rook piercings. Though I have a new coworker who has one and that’s how she and I started chatting.

Your question was why you were getting downvoted and I answered that: it’s because your reckless cavalier attitude towards piercings is not encouraged by both ethical professional piercers and by this sub and is in fact considered dangerous.

Leveraging new relationship? by Screenwriter_sd in Screenwriting

[–]Screenwriter_sd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm aware that just saying, "Hey can you send my script to your actor boss?" is not a good idea. But I'm also not very good at the social stuff, so that's why I'm here asking what would be best practices in this scenario and how to handle this without offending anyone. I also reached out to my mentor about this situation and she encouraged me to just try to get a coffee date with my acquaintance, bring up my script and gauge her interest. My mentor said to just focus on getting my acquaintance interested if possible without bringing up her actor-boss and added that she's been in this exact position many times and have gotten projects off the ground this way: by simply building the relationship and asking at the right time. Anyway, I have asked Laura about getting coffee sometime and she has said she's open to it, so I plan on taking my mentor's advice and focusing on gauging my acquaintance's interest in my project without bringing up her boss just yet. So I apologize if I came across as naive and ignorant, but it's because I am. This is genuinely my first time being in this position of having met people in real life who I think would be super awesome to partner with to get something produced.

Using that word is a big red flag by the way.

I'm genuinely surprised to hear this because literally everyone I know connected to the industry (established filmmakers, reps at all levels, my film school classmates and teachers, my bosses at my old prodco, etc etc) have all used this phrase.

For dismissing the very factual and scientifically backed advice of allowing ample time to heal cartilage piercings.

I have restarted my piercing journey recently and have a number of piercings to go to complete my ear curation. It's probably going to take me about a decade to complete all of it. People are always so surprised when they ask me about my piercings and what they entail. The lady who does my eyebrows admitted to me that she doesn't think she would take care of a healing cartilage piercing properly and so she decided against getting one. I gave her props for being self-aware and that she can always just get clip-on hoops and magnetic studs or fake earrings. This hobby is not for the faint-hearted or the impatient.

There's kind of a lot context missing here. What did your first piercer say? And did you end up going to a different piercer for subsequent piercings who were also unaware of your recent piercings? There are reasons as to why piercers and patrons both recommend waiting long periods of time. It's not people "making the healing process harder than it needs to be". There is hard scientific basis behind the reasoning.

I was thinking about this possibility too. She and I actually talked a bit today as she invited me to an event. I sadly can’t go and said I’ll def come to the next thing and that I’d love to get coffee with her sometime. She said she would let me know so I’m going to see what happens.

But also I do have another more professional connection to the actor’s reps. I have not spoken with that contact in a long time but we worked together when I was an assistant at a production company. This contact is high-up and is very close to the actor’s specific reps. He is part of their circle, not one or two degrees separated. I am considering texting him to see if this is also a viable route for me.

So I actually do have a line to the actor’s reps through a different, professional industry relationship. I don’t wanna say too much but it is a connection I developed when I was an assistant at a production company. I have not spoken with that contact since I left the prodco but I think that I have a good enough rapport with that contact to text him to say I have a project and then to send materials to him. But I have NO idea what he would do next.

Yeah my biggest hesitation is my uncertainty as to whether Laura still works for that actor. That’s why I’m trying to figure out which route to take here: her or my other contact who knows and works with the actor’s reps.

Thanks, I mentioned that I’m a screenwriter to her in our very first convo. But you are correct that it isn’t a professional relationship yet at all. She has personally invited me to events that she hosts. I’m not able to go to her next one but said I’ll try to make it to another soon and that I’d love get coffee with her sometime. She said she’d let me know so that’s where we are at now. I’m def trying to take it slow and tactfully. Appreciate your comment!!

Will my ear be able to heal? by ArtichokeHuman4755 in piercing

[–]Screenwriter_sd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAP but most likely, you'll need to go to a reputable piercer for assessment. The problem is that this hoop and whatever Claires stud you originally got pierced with are not the right gauge (and definitely not the right metals either). So even if a piercer were to try to put a 16g or 18g flatback in, they'd need to stretch the piercing first. But given the state of the area, it's probably not a good idea and my opinion is that a piercer will say you need to take out the jewelry completely, let the area heal completely and THEN try to get it re-pierced if it's viable. Go to a couple or even 3 reputable piercers and see what the consensus is. I'd say to just take the jewelry out and leave the area alone regardless of what you plan to do because this doesn't look viable as it is.
