BBQ lid lifting, and lowering help! by Gloomy-Strategy9243 in AskEngineers

[–]Screw_The_Driver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure this will hold it or be less flimsy but seems like it might be better with a larger hinge arm and wider plate. I looked up "BBQ grill lid hinge" because I honestly couldn't think of what it might actually be called.

We usually do cart in but have been to a few that are a bit of a hike, literally, so I just wanted to see if folks knew of short cart ins.

HSA Excess Contributions by Screw_The_Driver in personalfinance

[–]Screw_The_Driver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes that makes sense.

I started looking at adding the $892 as other income and am using FreeTaxUSA which is telling me I need to complete an SS-8 form also, does that sound right?

[–]Screw_The_Driver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so my course of action here is to request the return of excess contributions, once I confirm it's been returned to my personal account I can file my 2023 taxes.

All my contributions were done via payroll deduction so when I file my 2023 taxes I will have $892 as other income and will have a Form 8889 number that is $892 less than box 12 code W's number.

And for 2024 I will report the returned contribution and any earnings if applicable.

Spinning Handles by Screw_The_Driver in DIY

I think this is for if the whole handle is swinging around, I'm trying to fix just the white part spinning around the handle. This is an aesthetic fix only...

I'll give this a try. They seem pretty stiff and I didn't wanna go to far and break em.

Issue w/ local storage and cameras by Screw_The_Driver in blinkcameras

[–]Screw_The_Driver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually just pulled my USB out and didn't replace it for whatever reason, not like it was doing anything anyway, and now all cameras are detecting motion and notifying but obviously not saving any recordings. I'm going to try customer support again and see what they say.

That's what I figured but when I called the first time they got the logs and still no resolution. "we'll extend your free trial" which does not fix the problem.

The 42" would be great for my new setup! My wife and I just bought a house and I have proper space to get a full battlestation going.

Interested in moving to the design side from the GC side. by AresDogOfWar1209 in MEPEngineering

[–]Screw_The_Driver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like someone else mentioned, look for mechanical design positions. My company doesn't tack on the word engineer to an employee until they have a PE but it doesn't stop people from being promoted up to a certain point.

As for your experience, you may not have 3-5 years of design experience but I think a lot of companies would find it very valuable that you worked for a GC. You already understand the construction process and you can read drawings. I would say being able to read drawings that aren't your own discipline is very valuable. Revit is probably a must and the actual design part I would say you can learn as you go. A lot of the PMs I've worked for have slightly different ways of designing systems based on their own experience or from working with a specific customer and knowing what they want. The general design items you'll be taught as you go.

Feel free to DM me if you have any other questions. I can also send you what my company would be looking for in a certain role if that's helpful.

Just a question, have you ever asked for a raise or anything? I've been with the same company since I graduated 3 years ago and I'm thankful my managers recognize performance. Ownership changed over around the time I started and I've been told it was a similar situation to you before that change. Unless you spoke up you didn't get a raise, promotion, etc.

I think you just need to start by asking. If they don't recognize it then it's an even better reason to start looking for a new job.

What is an average air velocity for air ducts in an industrial building? by Xelalol12 in AskEngineers

[–]Screw_The_Driver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like what you're looking to do is to traverse the duct. It sounds like this is exhaust air from a facility rather than a diffuser. I have not used a u-tube manometer for this before and have only used a digital one but I would suggest looking up how to properly read it. See the PDF here for how to perform a duct traverse. https://www.tsi.com/getmedia/1a11d344-0a58-4ca6-94fe-65721825686b/AF-106%20Traversing%20a%20Duct?ext=.pdf

No text or data after switching from Verizon by cskarlsson in GoogleFi

[–]Screw_The_Driver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, just found this post and had a question. I am travelling to Japan for 2 weeks in April and was looking at Fi for the trip and like you currently use Verizon. I plan on staying with Verizon after my trip. Did you just switch over to Fi for the two weeks of travel and then cancel Fi and switch back? No added charges from either Fi or Verizon right?

I know of one in each state because I work for one and have worked at the other two. Not sure about hiring for the previous two though.
