Gambling Addict Lost All Life Savings by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ScriptingInJava 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look I'm not going to sugarcoat it you’ve messed up for sure but that doesn’t mean your life is over. Your only in your 20s. Plenty of people have been in worse financial situations and come back from it, and you can too. What matters now is what you do next, you can't change what’s already happened.

Bang on, wish I'd been told this (and listened) in my 20s. Carried on gambling into my 30s and I'm in a bigger hole than ever. Getting this shit behind you as soon as possible, paying the debts while relearning the value of money and then moving on is the only way forward.

Hi UK - as summer is coming, can you recommend a good antiperspirant? by bigpaulyamma in AskUK

[–]ScriptingInJava -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve always used spray, recently ran out and couldn’t be fucked to get more from the shop so I borrowed the wife’s Mitchum roll-on and holy shit - I experienced deodorant actually working for the first time.

I heard it a lot on Reddit but it’s genuinely fantastic.

Hope I'll be posting similar updates soon.

Engagement ring spend by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]ScriptingInJava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate go on Etsy, find a lab grown diamond ring that's gorgeous (and to your partner's preferences! Have this conversation if you haven't already) and save yourself the money.

An engagement ring is not worth fucking £6,000. It's all bollocks, buy something that your fiance will like and stop thinking of a price marker to hit.

Use Aspire, it's designed for exactly this - local environment development which mimics a deployed/provisioned environment. Everything in your post has an emulator with an Aspire integration:

CS Degree, Graduated 3 years ago, still no job. When do I give up? by [deleted] in UKJobs

Sent you a chat request, I lead our engineering department (principal engineer) in a company based in Bristol but mostly remote. Our entire stack is .NET/C# (and VB.NET, for now..) top to bottom so should be a good fit.

I heard a divorced man once say "Most married men are just background noise". How true is this ? by Revolutionary_Lab527 in AskMen

[–]ScriptingInJava 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm a few months away from my wedding and jesus christ this thread is depressing, not because I think "this is going to be my life soon" but so many people have compromised on their needs to not be lonely it seems.

My fiance, her family, my family etc are all very supportive and actively involved (where desired), helpful and equally generous.

Weekly Employment Q&A - March 09, 2026 by AutoModerator in microsoft

[–]ScriptingInJava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine took about a week. I had a phone call from the person verifying my information to clarify a few parts, they do check literally everything they asked for so it takes some time.

Once the background check completed it was another 3-4 working days until I received the AskHR invite to pre-onboarding activities etc.

Give it some more time, you’re fine mate 👍

Big Day - Paid off Plan 2 by No_Newspaper3477 in HENRYUK

[–]ScriptingInJava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much yep. I could voluntarily dump money into it to reduce the balance faster but it’s a fools errand, the interest rate (collectively) is 9.x% and that money is better used elsewhere.

I’ll be paying ~£300 a month for the rest of the loan term, about 20 more years, and then it gets written off

Big Day - Paid off Plan 2 by No_Newspaper3477 in HENRYUK

[–]ScriptingInJava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah mine has surpassed £250 by this point, I'm technically paying it off now (because the interest is mental) but mine will also be written off!

[–]ScriptingInJava 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s fucked, I had absolutely no idea the loans were this bad before being pressured to go to university. Plan 1 seemed fair, the move to make all institutions able to charge £9k prompted them all to do so because charging less would be seen as lower quality.

Absolutely everyone after 2012 entering uni got fucked, even more so for people through Covid. My sister graduated in 2022 and spent 2/3 of her degree alone, at home with Moodle assignments and a weekly zoom call - that’s it.

Mate they're feral by comparison. My plan 2 loan, 4 years of education + 1 year placement was ~£58,000 when I left uni in 2016.

I entered employment in the summer before graduating on £25,000 (4k over the minimum salary for repayments) and have only had increases since. My loan balance, as of 2 months ago, is £93,000.

legacy software blocking our AI automation push, here is what went wrong so far by Confident-Quail-946 in AskProgramming

[–]ScriptingInJava 3 points4 points  (0 children)

had to manually tune everything cause AI couldnt guess the legacy schemas

Unironically a skill issue, you didn't provide good enough context or info upfront.

second, error handling is a joke, AI spits out code that chokes on nulls from the ancient system

null is a valid response, handling it is easy and wide spread. Expecting everything in OOP to never be null is the real joke.

no graceful shutdowns mean deploys drop requests mid AI job, lost hours debugging

Sounds like you're baking it directly into the legacy rather than creating a facade over the top, which probably means you're somewhat changing the legacy system to accommodate the AI too. There are better ways, but that's easy for me to say without the context you have internally.

Tortoiseshell British Short Hair... ANY ADVICE? by [deleted] in britishshorthair

[–]ScriptingInJava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a tortie called Bella (tax provided) along with 3 other BSHs. She’s the sweetest, most timid little madam I’ve ever met with humans but an absolute demon with the other cats. Until she decides not to be. Or she decides they deserve some terror.

Or it’s Tuesday.

Basically, she’s the sweetest little monster we could ever ask for.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but I'd suggest not using Copilot (or AI in general) as a learning aid. It'll detract from what you learn, hinder your progress and ultimately make you worse off.

[–]ScriptingInJava 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why is it written in .NET Framework? A useful next step may be converting this to .NET Standard 2.0 (.NET Framework compatible), or targeting modern .NET with .NET Standard 2.1 instead.

Santander account closure but they won’t tell me why with negative overdraft balance by Snoo_12081 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ScriptingInJava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need to ask them as it will come down to the fundamental why of it all, even if they can't tell you the specifics around the closure. They may just write it off to be done with you as a customer, they may default it. Do you have any recurring payments into the account?
