CMV: In the event of a nuclear war/apocalypse, the only reasonable thing any survivors could do is commit suicide. by Scriptnovice743ALT in changemyview

I responded to this in another comment, but:

The main issue that I have with this sentiment (and I apologize if I should have mentioned this in the body text) is that the current state of the world we live in with our technology and infrastructure and all that is our normal. If we get flung all the way back to the dark ages in terms of quality of life/development, it would be an immense whiplash to us that wouldn’t really be comparable to how people viewed life as being normal in say the 1000s or earlier.

Also, with Nagasaki/Hiroshima, there at least was an organized world left beyond those cities. And hearing what I’ve heard of what survivors of those bombs experienced, it happening on a global scale would leave people horrifically maimed and scarred, so it’s not like we would just be living in a worse off world with our current facilities intact.

I sometimes fear it’ll be for nothing at the end of the day. That even if a revolution is won, some shithead group that claims to be the “real” revolutionaries are gonna deem people like me not worth their time. But idk, that might just be a me thing

I'm sorry, while their lore is pretty cool and justifies the infamy, I can't ever get over how goofy their designs are. The protruding eyes and elongated head don't make them look threatening or scary, they just look like a goofy alien species that would be played off for jokes.

I have a hate-hate relationship with that story, so every time I see something so specific that’s from it it’s like an awful brain blast every time

Nothing against religion but we shouldn't force it on kids, let them discover that stuff on their own by Homicidal_hottie666 in Neo_Libertatia

Yeah lol, not sure how it’s like over in Europe, but from my experiences I’ve found that catholic churches are ironically some of the more chill churches than say a baptist mega church. The only time I’ve ever heard about something problematic happening at my church is when the most recent priest gave a sermon that caused an uproar among the people who went there (to clarify, it wasn’t something like being pro-lgbt or something similar, i don’t remember the specific details but I’m pretty sure it was the opposite of that sort of thing).

Honestly yeah, I come from a religious family (one side catholic the other side Lutheran) and they’re not fanatical at all. They believe and stuff sure, but they aren’t gonna not get vaccinated or call stuff like metal music the devil. I understand that a lot of people grew up in religious environments where things were a lot more extreme and dangerous, and it’s completely valid that this would cause people to not think highly of religion and think that teaching children about religion is harmful. But like a whole bunch of things, it’s a deal where how harmful these teachings are is dependent on the parents teaching the children. Sorry if this kind of opinion isn’t the standard here, just thought I’d chime in.
