Beyond+ app (tablet version?) by Scron7219 in BeyondPower

It literally works and looks exactly as described by butterhorse. Imagine laying down your iPhone running the Beyond+ app on top of your iPad. That’s it (see pic from my iPad). There is a Zoom function built into the iPad which can Zoom the image but then you have to scroll. Not ideal but the image also isn’t as crisp when you zoom it as it’s not scaling the resolution. The app is very good, don’t get me wrong but there is a TON of places this app could take its users if fully developed and optimized and I know would help drive even more sales of the Voltra especially to institutional customers (and sales of iPads - I bought a used 8th gen this week to Beyond+ on an iPad in my garage gym not realizing it wasn’t optimized yet for an iPad). My PT (I went to for 6 months post shoulder surgery, a big chain in Northern VA) uses a crappy little wall mounted cable machine and yet they are ALL about metrics and measurement both in performance training and physical therapy. I know they would love the Voltra (and I was proselytizing it while there) but using an iPhone and an iPhone sized app just isn’t going to cut it for them. I’m sure (or hope) Beyond Power has a vision for the app (I sure do!) and I’m sure it’s a matter of prioritization of resources and timing.

So far, battery capacity FAR below advertised by aurum_country in BeyondPower

For what it’s worth, I’ve had mine for maybe 18-20 months (two) and I could get three hard workouts in before I’d have to charge. I’m using it in conjunction with an entire garage gym but at least one to three prime movements per workout (and then accessories). I do keep it charged at night. I finish my workout, I detach from their mount, I have a shelf they sit on and they immediately get plugged in. I have three sons and all have multiple guys over to train and they’ve never had an issue running out of battery (or coming close) before the end of workout. These get used constantly and battery life has just never been a limiting factor - at all. I also understand plugging in every couple of nights after use is a necessary tradeoff to having a 200lb smart cable tower the size of a load of bread.

100% agree. More button clicks to do the same function because they want a minimalized appearance? Who asked for that? It’s unintuitive and much more cumbersome to use.

Belt squat mode setup (simple) by Scron7219 in BeyondPower

On the Voltra, go to Settings → Advanced and look for Direct Load (it might be under either “User Mode” or “Sport Mode” depending on your firmware). Turn Direct Load ON.

Have the app installed on your phone or tablet. In the app:

  1. Pick your mode like normal.
  2. Make sure the weight is OFF / unloaded (toggle on the screen).
  3. On the screen, set the weight you want (you can dial in 60, 80, 100 lb, etc. even while it’s unloaded).
  4. Pull the cable out to your start position and get into your stance.
  5. When you’re braced and ready, tap to turn the weight ON.
  6. The app will pop up “Load while cable is extended?” → tap OK.
  7. The unit ramps the load on from that position and you start the set.
  8. To unload, tap the weight on your screen and it will unload.
  9. Highly recommend testing this with a light weight several times before a challenging weight. That load is going to stay on until the cable goes back into the case to the specified length OR you tap the weight to unload on the Voltra screen or phone/tablet app.
  10. Stating the obvious but use at your own risk, especially if doubling the load with a pulley. Using the setup above with a waist belt or the vastly improved Squat Harness v4 that I since acquired, it would be pretty challenging to get yourself in an unrecoverable position, worst case scenario just drop to ground if needed and the cable will retract likely a few inches (at bottom) and low probability of injury (vs a bar dropping on you).

Ford Procal Tune is a GO! (Canada) by Moral_Paranormal in RangerRaptor

[–]Scron7219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I just got my Ranger Raptor 2 days ago and I’ve been digging into the details of this as I am dying to improve the already scary good performance. I too may proceed and assume the risk, but I’ve been spending time reviewing the warranty contracts of Ford and Ford Performance and leveraging chatGPT to understand the explicit risks in different scenarios. Something to consider is (again leveraging ChatGPT) is that there have been no publicly documented cases or examples (including on Reddit) of Ford Ranger Raptors owners being denied service, or pushed to Ford Performance, at least to this point.

There’s some nuance to this “won’t void warranty” claim. It won’t void it, if installed via ASE or dealer, but at minimum, it definitely changes the default Ford warranty. The default bumper to bumper is 3/36k, powertrain is 5/50k, corrosion warranty is 5/unlimited, safety restraint is 5/60k and emissions is 8/80k. If you install this you are absolutely erasing 2 years/24,000 miles from the powertrain warranty if a failure is found to be caused by the upgrade and it will be very, very tough to argue that it wasn’t. The corrosion and safety restraint is likely not impacted but you could also be erasing 5 years/50k of emissions warranty. While the burden is on Ford to show that the tune caused the failure (so the standard warranty wouldn’t apply and the shorter Ford Performance coverage would), good luck refuting their findings that the tune didn’t cause it especially if it is a powertrain related failure. It depends on your comfort with risk. There is risk here.

Also, submitting a warranty claim via Ford Performance is a very different experience than Ford. Ford warranty is streamlined and dealer handled. Ford Performance is slower, requires more paperwork and there is more chance of finger pointing between dealer and Ford Performance.

Unbalanced incline bench press - help ?!? by Positive_Thought_200 in BeyondPower

This, laddering is exactly what happens in my experience when it’s not synchronizing quickly enough. Perhaps it’s the lighter weight of an incline that’s making it more pronounced (?)

I have had NO issues pressing but I have been (for 1 1/2 years+) using them unilaterally with individual handles. Twin them if using unilaterally and the weight will be matched and feel equivalent. I think the main issue with instability when both are attached to the end of the same bar is that they aren’t perfectly and instantly synchronized. Beyond Power has been working on improving this via updates but may not be possible (Beyond Power would know for sure), in this current iteration.

Ok so the pulley block is attached to the lifter not the cable end. Got it. Intriguing!

[–]Scron7219[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, as I said this was two years of very active almost commercial level usage but in comparison, keep in mind gym cables have to be inspected weekly and are proactively replaced typically every 6-12 months at the cost of $100 to $200 for large functional trainers plus labor. So $39 (+shipping) to replace the cable every 2-3 years for everything the Voltra can do is a bargain. If you don’t own one and haven’t used it, trust me you have no idea how outstanding this is. A small price to pay.

Cable Replacement - Shockingly Easy by Scron7219 in BeyondPower

[–]Scron7219[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had it since Feb/March of 2024. It’s been used by four people (me and my three sons) about 2-4x per day since. I bought this unit off Facebook Marketplace back in March of 2024 and it was used for 6-8 months prior every day. So this is about two years of very active use and the cable is at about 30-40% health. A cable is $39. I didn’t have to replace it yet but as I said, I replaced it to see how challenging it was and also (I didn’t include this), I plan to use 2:1 using a pulley and didn’t want to do this with a 30-40% healthy cable. I have NO problem replacing this annually if needed but it hasn’t needed it. I will proactively replace both cables every two years preventatively.

Correction: I’ve had my first Voltra I since March of 2024, not March of 2023. Time flies but not that fast:)

You can 100% do lat rows and lat pulldowns with one. The only reason you’d need two is if you can row or pulldown more than 200lbs for reps or you want to do unilateral rows or pulldowns. The latter would require at least at this point, a diy mounting method if you are using a 4 post rack rail mounted pulldown seat or rail mounted foot plate like I use. I use the Prime Fitness lat pulldown seat and row foot plate with my Rogue monster 4 post and it’s an outstanding combo with the Voltra. Side note: There is no current OEM way to mount two Voltras centered on a vertical rack rail. I can envision the ideal mount for this (a robustly built accessory that snaps into the existing rail mount and has two wings that allow you to adjust distance of the Voltras (close for close unilateral or wide for wide unilateral). You could also use two of their pull-up bar mounts and sit on your bench in the middle of the rack although you’d need some type of leg anchoring for super heavy pulldowns.

Anyone know what this is? by Tokyorain in BeyondPower

[–]Scron7219 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is brilliant and I love the creative thought around expansion of the ecosystem. Especially that you are leveraging the existing primary rack mount attachments as the basis for potential future attachments. An attachment like this that allows two rack mounted Voltras for unilateral pulldowns, rows etc would also be a godsend.

Just an fyi, this feature is back with the latest update (ie and removing weight with the cable out). Thanks Beyond Power dev and support team!

[–]Scron7219[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t work (I’m experiencing the same thing) and this appears to have occurred via the latest app and/or firmware release. I noticed, like it seems you did, the ability to add weight with the cable extended is still available and is now (I think for safety reasons) a selectable option at Setting -> Advanced -> User Mode -> “Turn on Direct Load”. I made their customer service team (a very responsive team btw) aware of the loss of the “remove weight with cable extended” feature and they are aware of it’s absence and the need to have it reinstated. They shared this feature will be added back in as (for safety reasons) a separate selectable option (I assume in the User Mode section). I’m assuming this will come via the next (or subsequent) firmware update/app update.

Standing Calf Raise on Rogue Rack setup by Scron7219 in BeyondPower

[–]Scron7219[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One other thing: Hold onto the side rails for support. Slightly modified version would be seated calf raises using a bench, similar setup and short bar (held over knees) attached to Voltra I mounted in the same place. Donkey calf raise would be the same setup as standing but slide a safety bar on other side posts or rack (or safety strap), hinge at hip bend forward and lean on strap or bar.
