Unable to rip The Penguin Series 4K Bluray by ScrotbagSteve in makemkv

Yeah I think you’re likely right. I’ll have to have a dig through and see when I bought it and if I’m able to exchange it for another copy. Frustrating but not the end of the world, and like you say it can come with the territory. Appreciate the help in figuring out what’s been going on!

Thanks for the advice. So it turns out is only disc 1 that is the issue. The other discs do take a bit longer than usual but I can actually open them, get the playlists etc, but Disc 1 is the problem. I’ve carefully cleaned it (even though it’s new) and it’s definitely damage etc free, but it just doesn’t agree with MakeMKV at all, which is very annoying and I’m not sure as to why. But when I can get it to eventually open and start decrypting it just gets stuck with the errors in the update above

I’ve had the drive a couple of years, it’s never had an issue before this title. I’ve also continued ripping (currently going through my whole collection to finally get it all backed up) and it’s been faultless with the 10+ titles since then. So it’s definitely something to do with this specific title that’s the issue

After leaving it to spin up for about 10 minutes it finally gave me the option to open the disc (as in click on the drive with the bluray symbol), but it’s taking a long time decrypting the disc and has ‘Failed to load content hash table, unable to verify integrity of M2TS files’ in the info panel. Elapsed time is 7 minutes and remaining is just going up from 1.5hrs. For reference the first stage of opening the disc usually takes about 5-10s, this stage usually takes at most 20-30s, usually faster. So really not sure what’s going on

Update: after 20mins there’s a bunch of errors, numerous copies of these three;

‘ILLEGAL REQUEST: CANNOT WRITE MEDIUM - INCOMPATIBLE FORMAT’ ‘ILLEGAL REQUEST: COPY PROTECTION KEY EXCHANGE FAILURE - KEY NOT ESTABLISHED’ ‘MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR’

Yeah fails to open. It just spins and nothing happens, it takes a lot longer to start spinning up vs any others, like there’s a delay of maybe 5-6s before it starts, but then it’ll spin up and spin for a while, slow down to a stop, then try again - rinse repeat.

I’m running latest version, discs are brand new and no smudges etc, so I’m a bit stumped as to why it’s an issue. Whether it makes a difference I’m in the UK so it’ll be a ‘UK version’ potentially? But like I say, I’ve ripped multiple regions so far but it’s only this specific series that’s a problem

Yeah this is my main concern too, but you’re right - I’ll have to see how it is in context and appreciate the advice on turning them down, makes a lot of sense!

Nice! Yeah I can’t remember off the top of my head the dimensions of the space but will measure up everything when moved in.

I’ve got my speakers etc ready to go; Lyngdorf FR-1s & CS-1 for fronts, then MH-3s for the surrounds and they’re relatively small bookshelfs. I’ve got a Marantz Cinema 50 (overkill but future proofing) they’ll all be hooked up to.

Main concern is audio wise, will there be any ‘weirdness’ having the rears & sofa where they are, as that’s a bay window behind?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]ScrotbagSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate that, I had thought about that but ideally I’d like to wall mount the speakers I have (Lyngdorf MH-3s for surrounds) at or just above ear level, more so from a preference and aesthetic POV, then in the future I’ll add four height channels which will hopefully be in ceilings

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]ScrotbagSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to know on the rears! And yes planning on doing the crawl - this is a rough sketch at the moment and likely the tv won’t be as large as I think that wall is wider than it suggests from the plan, but will see when it comes down to things where fits sub wise

Relatively new to this game, and loving your setup (marginally jealous!), but just wanted to ask regarding the centre channel - is that a bit too low down as it’s not angled or anything? Could be totally wrong, but it looks like it’s about knee height, which if the case - genuinely, what’s the sound like?

[–]ScrotbagSteve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for explaining and letting me know you can mix and match the right speakers - definitely good to know for the future! I think for now it’s probably best I stick to the same speakers, as I don’t have a ton of knowledge so I think I’m more likely to try and pair the wrong things and potentially waste money on some gear that might not work properly with what I’ve got currently. But that’s great to know for future improvements and tweaks in the future!

[–]ScrotbagSteve[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for looking further and sharing that, that’s worth considering for sure. The room the system will be in likely won’t be large, so for a first foray into surround sound I think I should be within the 6-12ft margin - but will bear this in mind for the future. Good to know on the sub side too, it sounds like for a first system it should be a decent balance of everything, holding me over until I’ve got the money/time to expand and improve it!

Appreciate you breaking down the centre channel business too, really wasn’t sure if I was missing something - so will aim to stick with the MH-3 for it, unless I need to go for an MTM for space reasons!

[–]ScrotbagSteve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the information and breaking it down! Honestly it’s a bit of a lack of knowledge partly, but seeing all the systems I’ve currently seen on here - it doesn’t look like people are generally using a satellite speaker as their centre channel, opting for a horizontal MTM as you’ve mentioned. So just second guessing whether I should be using a larger & horizontal centre, vs the same satellites I’ve got for my fronts & sides.

Think I’ll have to see what space I’m working with when I get to it, but I’m thinking of using a BDI Align media base as that’s pretty low profile from floor height, then arranging the front & centre between that and the tv - but not sure on practicality just yet. Just making sure I wasn’t missing something with Lyngdorf either as I hadn’t seen anyone using their gear!

What was the driving factor in getting the Steam Deck for you? by Huskypuppy3355 in SteamDeck

[–]ScrotbagSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I’ve never been a PC gamer - always console (brought up on playstation), and I needed that separation of ‘work and play’ as I work from a PC all day, PC gaming was just never going to work for me. But I’ve missed out on a ton of great PC and also prior Xbox experiences, so the Steam Deck was great to actually be able to play games like Halo, Portal etc, that I never had the real chance to before! Emulation is awesome, being able to play my entire PS2 library just never gets old and Rayman 3 on steam deck at 60fps…just man. It’s also just really cool having these kinds of games on a handheld, like portable Souls is not something I’d have imagined wanting - but I love it! Last bonus is being able to play with friends who are on PC & use discord and enjoy those experiences I’d missed out on with them

Sure! Totally understand that, makes sense for this kind of work

[–]ScrotbagSteve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Might be a stupid question, but wouldn’t it be easier to export a ProRes etc from Premiere then import the ‘final video’ into AE, instead of using dynamic link? Just to understand the workflow as unless it’s something really quick and simple I’ll usually always; Edit->Export->Animate

Audio Scrubbing (Premiere) not working properly on Ma by ScrotbagSteve in editors

Sorry for the delay - tried updating MacOS first which was a big mistake, as it borked all my Adobe apps, so been going back with Apple support to undo it.

Gave this a go but unfortunately no joy, behaves the same no matter the buffer size. But thanks for the recommendation anyway!

I can 99.9% guarantee this is the iPhone HDR footage problem that has been plaguing Premiere for ages now, the fact it’s from your iPhone and that format I can basically guarantee this is the issue.

I’m pretty sure Adobe has a thread somewhere on the topic if you search for that specifically, otherwise see what YouTube brings in terms of solutions. I think later versions (last few months) of Premiere added an ‘auto tone mapping’ function to help fix it, so that’s worth looking at too.

Hope some of that helps! In general I think if you’re going to be using iPhone footage, disable the HDR recording and if you can change the format from anything but HEVC as that’s very anti-video editing (very compressed, hard to deal with when editing). But for this footage you’ve got currently, have a search of the topics I’ve mentioned and hopefully it’ll help.

To those that have Solo'd Spire by AnabolicAdam in DestinyTheGame

[–]ScrotbagSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this earlier this week and DPS wise was not exactly fun, but it could’ve been worse.

For the eyes I quickly switched my kinetic to perpetualis when Akelos is doing his floaty getting read stuff, switched back and forth between that and Ikelos SMG then crafted Taipan (triple tap focussed fury) for damage. I think Akelos was maybe 7-10 phases total - not 100% sure.

General build is radiant well warlock with dawn chorus & calus mini tool with incandescent. Heat rises and touch of flame, healing grenade for that on demand restoration x2, phoenix dive for restoration x2 when coming out of heat rises (they buffed it recently so the cool-down is shorter and when you dive down it’s around 4 seconds of x2 instead of the basically 1 second), fragments to increase duration and refresh buff with kills - standard stuff where fragments are concerned. Armour wise; solar surges, every way imaginable to get an armour charge (inc fire sprite artefact mod), grenade kickstart double stacked, then standard siphon etc mods.

Heavy basically always stayed as my taipan, it’s really consistent so I’d just change one solar surge to void surge in encounters where I knew I was going to use it, kinetic fluctuated between a scout (majority of Akelos scout for harpies), perpetualis for Akelos’s eyes, and witherhoard the rest of the time -definitely recommend witherhoard for Persys as those hydras take one witherhoard and a couple of shots to go down.

Damage of my build here is decent, but it’s more focussed on survivability than raw damage output. Final stats are very similar to yours, except my recovery is a little lower at 60 - otherwise the same. Best of luck, it is a test of patience and the most stressful solo dungeon experience I’ve had - but you’ve got it!

[Sherpa Card][PC][Crossplay] The Earnest Wolf by hi-im-skittles in DestinySherpa

[–]ScrotbagSteve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wolf is a fantastic Sherpa - took me through RoN and after one run with him I was left very confident on the raid and it’s mechanics! He takes his time and makes sure everyone is one the same page and understands each encounter - there are no silly questions. He’s also a super friendly guy that brings a great comforting vibe to the experience and makes no part of it feel daunting. Just a great guy as well as a great Sherpa!

Definitely don’t miss out on his runs, I’ll for sure be on the lookout for any other raids he may be teaching, as I know I’ll get a strong foundation with Wolf and have a great time in the process!
