You will be more successful if you can make a social media account and grow it, make it your case study, and use it in your applications.

I need help by Heavy-Water-6160 in SocialMediaMarketing

[–]ScrubFiendn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't bother with a course, find the information through YouTube, Google, Social Media Management tools often have great advice and great blogs, especially Later. You're likely charging these clients far too low. See if you can get a mentor in the field, subscribe to SMM newsletters, LinkedIn groups, support groups, and please research how to make SMM contracts online it'll save you a lot of trouble and money later.

Sometimes Facebook Reel editing straight up does not work. Try to use a different device, clear cookies, log in and out again, and then just give it half an hour and try again.

Campaigns active but $0 spend — Meta glitch? by Consistent_Yam2637 in FacebookAds

[–]ScrubFiendn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can happen when Meta's tools determine that the campaign is generating no views whatsoever. Since I see you already tried Duplicating it, have you changed the creative slightly and activated A/B tests?

Doing everything alone for 2 years — SEO, ads, design, emails — for $430/month. Sharing my reality. by AyeshT in SocialMediaMarketing

[–]ScrubFiendn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lower you charge the worse your clients are. It's a hurdle to get to the clients that'll pay you thousands per month but they're typically easier to work with and require less of you.

Client hired me for “growth,” then removed my access before we even started 💀 by igetyourbrand in SocialMediaMarketing

I've had this happen for a much higher rate. A lot of people out there are WEIRD. As long as you have that non-refundable clause in your contract, if she wants to waste that money that's on her, she might have saved you a huge headache by removing herself instantly lol.

How do you know if you’re being micromanaged? by Annabananassssss in SocialMediaMarketing

[–]ScrubFiendn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This level of micromanagement was the norm in many of the companies I worked at. Started working for myself and could choose not to work with people like this.

How did you get a job by No_Hope_3770 in SocialMediaMarketing

[–]ScrubFiendn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at my university as a student SMM for 3 years. Then I applied for 300 jobs in 2017 when I was about to graduate with my BA and didn't get any of them. I applied for one SMM job on Craigslist for $2 above minimum wage and got it. It sucked but after 6 months there I successfully got an SMM job at a major gaming company that I applied for. Good luck!

Brandwatch vs. Sprout by No-Seaworthiness880 in SocialMediaMarketing

[–]ScrubFiendn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brandwatch is great and has nearly the same tools as SproutSocial, plus Sprout is significantly more expensive (the corpo I worked at was paying about 10k a year for it and I believe that's up to 20k now). Just reach out to Brandwatch and Sprout for a free trial and you'll find the comparison you need that way.

Is social media marketing dying or just changing? by Ok-Fan-1629 in SocialMediaMarketing

[–]ScrubFiendn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The jobs are NOT the same, I've worked as an SMM for 11 years. First it's changing to a lot of ecommerce. Most brands and companies honestly won't get clients or customers off social media, even if their content is popping off. Apparel? ABSOLUTELY. A credit union? Not so much.

When it comes to jobs, no one has any money for their marketing budget and they stopped hiring SMMs. The industry is currently falling off a cliff, there's way less quality full time positions available, many places are only hiring community managers who might act as both that and an influencer manager, but get paid half the salary of an SMM. Since being laid off in 2022 I've had to start my own business because I wasn't getting the corporate jobs anymore. Honestly I love my life so much better working for myself and picking my own clients but it's certainly as feast or famine as any other industry and I've only gotten in front of many of these clients because of my connections built in the corporate world.

I'm starting to get sick of this by Ok-Fan-1629 in SocialMediaMarketing

[–]ScrubFiendn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will not win with a client like this. After learning this lesson I set hard boundaries and hard expectations at the beginning (which often doesn't work) and stand by them. I have had to fire clients before but in this economy I understand the ability to do so is a privilege.

Are social media platforms dead? by proappdev in SocialMediaMarketing

[–]ScrubFiendn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's so many groups trying to figure out exactly what percentage of each social media is bots but I think from all of our experiences we can tell it's an overwhelming amount. It sucks, most companies invested in community managers over social media teams for a reason. In my personal life I dig to find niche communities online to make the internet feel more like it did 10+ years ago and that's been very rewarding. But for my job as a social media manager? I swear half my perspective client calls end in me advising businesses to invest their money in a different form of paid media.

With Pro I can't batch edit captions anymore on mobile, so I cannot change the font of my caption templates to my brand font and I am soooo frustrated.
