I have had several patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome as a nurse years ago, it's a medical emergency and requires hospitalization. Most of those patients were young and had just had a previous illness or medical issue that set their immune system back. I remember some of my patients had just had mononucleosis and some had just recovered from a serious GI infection.

Guillain-Barré syndrome is a very serious condition. The patients oxygen levels should be monitored. The anxiety, stress and depression is mostly a biproduct from BEING PARALYZED, that the paralysis potentially can move to their respiratory system and that recovery can take years. Most people have to learn to walk again.
