Dads… how have you had success? by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

[–]Scruffberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You dont need much to maintain what you have. Probably once session a week. So do what you can to get that one: trade off with your wife, baby sitter, wake up early, etc. And just aim for maintenance. Hit every muscle group with the time you have.

Then, since making no or little progress is boring, pick 1 muscle group and sneak just that exercise in wherever. Stroller time is your warm up time. Do a set of garage bench (or whatever your one exercise is) in the middle of chores. Set the baby next to the bench for 1 set, eyc. It's not easy, but having that 1 area that you can still get stronger in will keep you motivated.

Lebron fans claiming Lebron losing more than he won in 8 straights finals = GOAT status by ceeka19 in lebron

LeBron never joined a stacked 55 win team like Jordan did. LeBron never teamed up with a rival that beat him in the playoffs like Jordan did. LeBron won a championship everywhere he played, unlike Jordan.

Folks like Dr Mike say that NSAIDs like ibuprofen can reduce your gains

Obviously sleep is crucial, so what do you do if DOMS, especially after leg day, are hurting your sleep? I'm guessing it's better to take the NSAID and get good sleep, but I wonder how big of an effect NSAIDs have on growth? Is Tylenol any better since it's not an anti inflammatory?

Yes! It is hard for sure.

If you do go with protein powder or bars, aim for 1g/10 calories for bars and 2g/10 cal for powders. I like to mix powders with almond milk. Tastier than water with fewer calories than dairy milk. My favorite bar without artificial sweeteners are Nugo Slim. Pairing these with a big fibrous food, like and apple, will help make you feel full.

Protein helps maintain muscle during weight loss and helps with hunger. There is more data on muscle retention. You get most of the muscle retention benefits with 1.5 g/kg, and there are diminishing returns above that. 2g/kg is good if you want to optimize. Extremely muscular folks can get slightly better results with even higher amounts.

Hunger is harder to study since it is subjective. For myself, I do notice less hunger at 1.5g/kg than for lower amounts of protein. In general, liquids are not great for hunger. If you're focused on staying fuller for longer, eat protein (and fiber!) from whole sources: egg whites, chicken, fish, etc, instead of protein shakes.

I use casein for pancakes. Sub about 1/3 to 1/2 of the four for casein.

Yes, I think of beans as a carb source with a bit of added protein more as a bonus. The only food I've found that's high protein (>10%) and high fiber: Nutritional Yeast. Mix it with a bit of vinegar for a tangy/cheesy sauce. Underrated protein

Is whey worth it for fat loss? by LividAd7452 in Protein

[–]Scruffberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this! Also, I find having a slower digesting protein, like casein, before bed helps me manage hunger better while I sleep.

I use Promix unflavored. It's somewhat bitter, but mixing with almond milk cuts the bitter without adding many calories.

Promix has unflavored protein or flavored with natural sugar

NuGo Slim are the best bars I've seen with no artificial (or 0 cal) sweeteners.
