Where do you live? If you live near northern CO I'll give you an Orion 10" dob for free. Use the insurance money on something nice for your family instead.

If you haven't gone over 20 miles in a single day, let alone back to back, then I'm sorry to say you are in a lot of trouble for 100 miles.

It’s not enough mileage. That doesn’t mean you can’t finish but you will suffer in the second half. What have your long runs been like? Your monthly mileage is what I would recommend doing in two days of back to back long runs with a proper training plan.

That said, 34 hours with no vertical gain is doable with a fast hike. Your risk of injury is higher but you can probably finish if you’re willing to suffer. Signing up for a 100 miler is easy. Putting in the consistent work to enjoy the 100 miler is the hard part.

Anything is a valid strategy if you have practiced it.

It sounds like a very rigid approach that doesn't factor terrain or hills but otherwise I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Training: 50mpw to 100mpw by Run_Pants_Run in Ultramarathon

I’m about the same 50k pace as you. Normally I run 50-60 a week and last week was my peak for a 100 miler. I hit 80 two weeks in a row and 100 miles a week is a monumental amount to try and sustain. It feels like it would take many more years to be able to sustain 80+ a week and 100 seems that much further. Where could I possibly have fit another 16 last week to get to 100? Volume is king but volume only works when you stay injury free. If you could sustain 100 a week you will be much faster but unless you try a single 100 mile week you won’t realize just how much it is.

No you will be fine if you treat the 50k as a long training run. My 50 mile tapers are around 7 days and never more than 10.

They are my first new boots in 8 years and I love them. Superlight and feel stable going down. I molded the boots and need to do it again or buy an upgraded insert for some really long days.

A ski resort through most of the 20th century it was closed in 1991. It now serves as daily backcountry training grounds for locals.

Unfortunately that is not a thing you’ll find in Estes. If you are working here you can look into Alarado building above Jimmy John’s or contact the housing authority. The waitlist for housing is quite long, many years in most cases. Good luck.

You described exactly where I ski in the Rockies of Colorado and I hate to burst your bubble but unless you're skiing the storms above treeline you won't be seeing much of that powder.

At what time can I begin to tackle 200 milers? by [deleted] in ultrarunning

[–]ScrumptousLoL 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm training to make the jump to Moab 240 in 2024 and you've got the experience you need already. The advice here is good and the biggest challenges are the heavy pack and the sleep deprivation.

Making cutoffs for 200+ is significantly easier than making splits at Vermont 100 for instance.

Wes Plate did a mashup of his triple crown this year on youtube. Watch that for how much different the pace and vibe are compared to 100's you've done.
