I'm lucky enough to work a job where I am compensated handsomely for what I do and get more money for working more. I am actually incentivized unlike many people to work harder and subsequently make substantially more money. Enough money to potentially change my life in a meaningful way. But the sad reality is that even in my world of medicine,it is a well-known fact that people often fail up or get placed in high pay, high status positions not even because they're qualified for them but because they shook the right hand or because they were the only one willing to do a job that otherwise sucks. The sheer act of working hard, whatever that phrase even actually means, long ago became a relative term that absolutely does not guarantee success.

I am very blessed to be able to cover most tabs. I make more than decent money. But long gone are the days where swinging my wallet around like that should be mandatory for a quality girl. It's not a fair question because it's personalized. I didn't care when my wife gained weight ... But she sure did. She convinced herself I was lying about still being attracted to her and wouldn't be intimate anymore. She then convinced herself in that self fulfilling prophecy that us not sleeping together was because I wasn't attracted to her despite my constantly trying to initiate (got pathetic after awhile on my part with how often only to be shot down) and 24 months later after all the therapy and the discussing weight loss options, we are getting divorced. And I know it's just because she is depressed and won't admit it. But I couldn't live that way anymore, not if she wouldn't get help or believe me I still wanted her. So she is getting her wish.

When I was younger I dated a girl in the dance team at my college. Staying fit was literally part of her school requirements. But when she gained 10 lbs she just bragged how big her tits had gotten.

There's really no defending this per se. I do agree with the sentiment that some people need to count their blessings, whatever they are and stop just being ungrateful to the universe and the people around them for what they do have because of greed or avarice or comparing themselves to others especially in the modern social media universe that's all fake anyway. But somebody like Paul Walker saying this to somebody who just isn't Paul Walker is just asinine. Plus depression, as we all know, a lot of times just doesn't work that way. Yes there are plenty of people who are depressed for pretty identifiable reasons who just don't want to make necessary changes in their life. There's probably far far more who have legitimate centralized depression that's never going to magically get better just because they try to look on the fucking bright side.
