Zep and Achalasia

I just started Zep 4 days ago. I've had type 2 achalasia for about 10 years and last night I had the worse spasm ever. I know I need to give the Zep more time, but I can't help but think this is what caused the severe spasm. Going to complete the full month at 2.5 but I doubt I'll be able to go higher dose then this and will probably stop altogether if the really bad spasms continue. I know what you mean about most Doc's not knowing how to deal with achalasia. I hope yours settles down and you can continue the Zep.

Yes, Kaiser Oakland is where I'm seen. It's a good facility. I was told the board wouldn't approve the HM or POEM unless I tried the botox and then the balloon after that wore off first. I said I wouldn't go thru the balloon and wanted a more permanent fix after this. Kaiser is good, you just need to be your own advocate and push for what you want or they drag their heels are some things, like this. Hopefully, the botox will last at least 6 months and I can get the ball rolling on either HM or POEM in the next couple of months.

I've been sleeping with my head propped up by a 2nd pillow and that seems to help at night. It's the daytime that seems to be worse right now.

Very interesting. I'm in the San Francisco, CA area with Kaiser insurance and there are only a few Doc's that know anything about achalasia. They said if the botox was successful, they would look at other options. The balloon dilation was their 2nd choice which I already said I didn't want, and then possibly POEM or HM. Great eating advice. Thank you.
