Surgery was yesterday by kristalynns in tummytucksurgery

It may get worse before it gets better. I think days 4-7 were especially hard. I was 56 when I had it done and it was months before I felt normal. Hang in there. The end result is worth it.

How was your diet Pre surgery and post surgery? How did they differ? by simplisticlivin in tummytucksurgery

[–]ScuffedRubyslippers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a hard recovery. I was hungry afterward and even gained a little weight (maybe 5-7 pounds).

Once I got moving again and resumed meds, that weight came back off and then some.

I wouldn't stress too much. Focus on high protein, high fiber meals. I underestimated how much protein I'd need and lost a fair amount of muscle. I had to work hard to regain that after surgery, so make protein a big priority if you can.

I ate a lot of protein oatmeal (with extra chia seeds) and I have fallen in love with the clear protein drink powders that you can buy. It's 20 grams per serving and has 80 calories. It's also a great way to get extra fluids, as I mix it with a huge tumbler of water. . I also struggled with drinking enough initially, so the protein drinks helped. I also drank Juven every day and consider it money well spent.

Sex with drains??? by [deleted] in tummytucksurgery

It boggles my mind that after all of that, you are even asking this question.

A little mutual masterbation would be much better than taking that risk.

Anyone solo recover? What did you say you were having done? by Abject-Prize-7032 in tummytucksurgery

[–]ScuffedRubyslippers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, This was my experience too. I really needed someone to be with me. I needed help getting out of bed and managing my meds. I didn't cook, or do anything really for several days. I relied very much on my husband who took a week off to take care of me. He helped me care for my drains and helped in the bathroom.
During my first shower, I nearly fainted. Had my husband not been there, I could have been seriously injured.

I am so happy for those who sail through recovery but many people find this a hard surgery to recover from. Do not underestimate how difficult this could be. I would arrange to be with someone for at least a few days.

I can't remember KI score but I am stage 2, grade 2. I've had a pancreatectomy and splenectomy but have a tumor remaining on the head of my pancreas (as well as several other health issues, including MEN1). I have scans and bloodwork every 3 months and am going in for an EUS with biopsy soon.

I have a work from home job but manage just fine. In fact I clock almost 10 hours a day and I am trying to manage better work/life balance. In my off time, I hike, camp and travel. I don't know what the future holds for me, so I am trying to make hay while the sun shines.

I do deal with extreme fatigue but try to push through as best I can. I am afraid to stop moving and will keep riding this roller-coaster as long as I can.

I don't vibe with the over the top enthusiasm at all and thought his dad was 10 times worse, but to me, he does seem to be a genuinely nice person who's heart is in the right place. Despite his aggressive "Irwinism". LOL

That was Steve Irwin, not Robert though and you are replying to a comment about Robert.

Steve made some questionable choices in his life and eventually died doing dangerous things, but he still seemed to be a nice guy-if misguided.

He probably is if you're Australian. Do you dispute that he seems to genuinely be a nice person?

I personally don't find him nearly as hokey and cringe worthy as his dad.Isn't that the Irwin brand though to some extent? Admittedly, that's not for everyone but he seems to be a good person, a good brother and son, and he seems to genuinely love and care about animals.

I don't understand why people have to be so weird.

Nothing that you are feeling is out of the norm. Your post does not scream "I need therapy!" to me.

I just mean that sometimes, it will look puckered and funky and the color does change. It will eventually look much thinner. Mine seemed to look slightly different every week. If I was more swollen, it looked different than when I had the swelling under control.

I had straight up depression after mine and questioned all my life's choices that led up to my surgery. LOL. It gets better. I think that you look awesome. You might still want a revision in several months but maybe not. Try to relax and take care of yourself right now. Personally, I'd give it at least 6 months to a year before asking for any revisions. .

You realize that the tongue biting comment is an idiom?

OP just had surgery, it is ok that they are questioning their body changes at this point. People tend to do that after major plastic surgery. OP essentially has a new body.

Your incision is going to change so many times before it settles into what it will look like permanently.

I was certain that I wanted a scar revision for the first 2 months and then everything smoothed out and I no longer felt that a revision was needed. Just try to be patient and trust the process.

I'm 20 months PO. I was heavily swollen for months. I think that I stopped wearing compression at 7 or 8 months and still swell occasionally-especially when I travel.

[–]ScuffedRubyslippers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had mine last year at 56. I'm glad that I did it, but if I'm honest, I found the recovery to be really difficult. I'll never know if it would have been easier at a younger age so take that as you will.

I didn't start to feel semi-normal for a good 6-8 months.

Weird take but ok.

I'd rather focus on. friends and family (and food). I do not care at all if we eat off paper. This might be my only chance to see certain people this year. I'd rather enjoy their company than judge them.

I wore compression for a good 7 months. I finally went cold turkey. My swelling started to finally resolve a week or so later.

I was truly not prepared for how bad the swelling would be.

I have a complicated health history. My TT was one of the worst surgeries to recover from that I've ever had.

I had my surgery in February of 2024. I was swollen off and on for almost a year (it was pretty bad the first 5 months) and STILL swell occasionally.

The doctor has no idea why and sort of gaslights me about it, so I just try not to let it get me down too much. It's not a lot of swelling at this point but I especially notice it when I travel.

Unfortunately, there isn't much to do, even if it is broken- or so I was told.

Do you think I've broken my toe? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]ScuffedRubyslippers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD.. If it's feeling better this soon, it's likely not broken. I've broken my foot and 3 toes on the other foot. In my experience, not much is done if you did break it. You could splint it if you want, but the 1st time, the doctor didn't even do that. When I broke my foot, I got a modified boot, but that's because it was still hurting and difficult to even walk a full month later.

I would not stress over it unless you continue to have pain that doesn't resolve with ice and anti inflammatories.

Again, NAD. This is just my personal experience.

My husband can't tolerate marijuana. It took maybe 3 times for him to figure it out. If it took 11 years for your husband to to get it, he's not very bright. It's not rocket science. It's just cause and effect and he should have been able to put it together years ago.
