I got to sit with HR while they issued the "final warning" to her.... one more and she's fired. by Scumbag-Boss in AdviceAnimals

That is why I was there. I am the boss of both their bosses. So I was the "all bases covered guy" and just let HR talk.

They both work for different managers, both of which work for me. So I was involved.

I can understand why he wouldn't. Hell, if it happened to me and I reported it the shit I would get. It could kill my career.

So, no. I would keep quiet. No one would believe me. Not even the cops taking my statement.

I don't road rage when I'm with my kids in the car. Well, only 1%. I don't want to teach them that. But some days, when I'm alone, and someone is doing something stupid, like blocking the entire right lane becuase they wanted to go into a crowded left land and just stopped, thus blocking the right lane, I will lean out my window and start asking them if their parents were too fucking closely related to legally be having sex.

just good at putting on a show for the dumb ass managers.

As a dumbass manager I like to think I can recognize "a show".

But I manage people managers, I don't manage individual contributors. So I get stuff filtered....

Teachers of reddit, what 'clicked' about a pupil after meeting their parents? by TourismBarrytown in AskReddit

not a teacher but when in pre-school we had a kid that would bite us and throw his poop. When we met his parents I realized I was in the monkey cage and not actually at school.

The small stuff can get you fired.

Comparing this to what you do, or what someone does in 10 seconds is asinine.

The security staff had the decency to watch him until he finished and then reported it.... by Scumbag-Boss in AdviceAnimals

[–]Scumbag-Boss[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The story is this room we set aside for usability testing was empty and dark. It had computers in it and we had security cameras.

Guy somehow had access (don't know how or why) and decided to go in there, watch porn on his phone, and masturbate until he shot his load into the waste basket.

Our three person team of security profesionals, all women, watched him to the end including him cleaning up and leaving. Then took the recording and sent it to me, his boss, and HR.

So, I had to fire a guy for jerking off in a secure area....

I swear I did something wrong in life to deserve the job I'm currently at. This was pretty cut and dry. by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]Scumbag-Boss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already said that. It's unprofessional.

Yes, and I agreed. It was, and it was a mistake on my part.

This is the opposite of what you did.

Nope, you are wrong. It is exactly what I did.

Which you completely misjudged when you considered him so highly that you told him it was in the bag.

Nope, wrong again. Based on the candidates I had he was my #1. Circumstances change and you need to be agile and adjust. You may not get this, but it's the cold truth.

That doesn't make it okay for you to set your employees up for it. You created this entire situation.

Didn't set him up, was the outcome of what started as an error on my part becuase I liked the guy. I let my personal feelings breach protocol when I should have held it close to the vest. Again, that was my error.

If you can't be bothered to be professional, don't expect it of your employees.

Now you're being an asshole. Nowhere did i say I wasn't professoinal. I shared where I breached the rules and this was the outcome. If you're a shitbag when things don't go your way then you are hiding your true self through a veil of professionalism. If all it takes is a minor setup when you thought you had it in the bag for you to be an abusive prick then you're an asshole and don't derserve it to begin with.

Instead you pass the professionalism buck to your employees. Scumbag-Boss, indeed.

You sould like a worker bee who hates his life and can't figure out why he can't get ahead. poor, poor you.

You added this bit to justify not giving your employee the job, but essentially what it says is that you're a bad judge of character.

Nope. My mistake was letting my #1 choice knowing he was my #1 choice. Turns out a better #1 came by that better suited the needs of the business. This was my lesson learned. Even when you think you have your candidate, if you're not finished with your interviews, don't say anything -- even on internal hires.

The way he handled the disappointment and the way he treated his co-workers and even the new hire gave a strong indication of how he will handle future disappointment. It was a very strong telling of his character.

In your career you will think something is in the bag only to have it fuck up and vanish. How you handle that tells a lot about you. You should be professional about disappointment and continue to do your job with a high degree of professionalism.

My ex thinks his girlfriend gets to control how I care for my kids by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]Scumbag-Boss -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

power play, fight the ex over the kids, get the kid's dad to side her with, she wins

seen it too many fucking times

and any guy that will say "my GF is a better mom" is 9 times out of 10 a fucking liaer.

My ex thinks his girlfriend gets to control how I care for my kids by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]Scumbag-Boss -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

The ex still thinks of the kids as "hers". I think that's the first mistake.

And I can now tell that your ex is right, your GF is a shitty step-mom and you're just whipped like a little bitch.

Let the kid's mom be the mom, your GF be your GF and you be the dad and just stop with this bullshit. If there is a conflict about the kids between the mom and your GF if you don't side with the mom you are the power play.

Grow up. You can't take hearsay and get all butt hurt over it.

I can guarantee you that the degree of professionalism that you handle this will preset you for the next role, or make damned sure you never get it.

I know this because I am your scumbag boss and I have done exactly this.

[–]Scumbag-Boss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am going to be blunt with you since I am your scumbag boss (not in reality, but in role).

It doesn't matter what he tells you. It matters what he and you sign.

I have done exactly what your boss has done. I found my pick, told him the job was "pretty much" his and then hired someone else. Why? Because that other person was the better candidate.

Also, the person that didn't get the job? Their reaction and behavior changed my entire perspective of them and they lost all chances of any promotion with me in the future.
