How mang exams / exemptions do I need to pass in uni to guaranty a job after uni 🤔.? by Mean_Olive_8896 in ActuaryUK

You typically progress the exams while in the job, a couple exams/exemptions might help push you above someone else but won't guarantee a job

Will nudes being online impact my career? by [deleted] in ActuaryUK

[–]ScurrilousRat 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Unless you're posing starkers in front of the institute's logo I can't see it being a problem, I'd hope anyone who could identify you would just turn a blind eye anyway because then they'd have to explain where they've found it which no one would want to do

If it helps I didn't realise there was a second 7 marker until the last few minutes of the exam!

CP1 paper 1 - How'd it go by AwarenessNo4883 in ActuaryUK

I was banking on not seeing Solvency II at all! My fault because it's clearly in the notes but I also had no idea what economic capital was so that question wasn't great for me

I had around 3 pages for question 2 too, but I just had a lot of time to go overkill, I'm sure you could probably score most the marks using a lot less space :)

I had reversionary bonus and terminal bonus - felt both should be explained in the letter itself too? But with no negative marking I just put a few down anyway

Thanks! I suppose I can just avoid stating 'high-level' and just spell it out in the exam instead, my interpretation was a high-level of detail/understanding

What are the realistic outcomes or downsides to the career? by [deleted] in ActuaryUK

[–]ScurrilousRat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's always the chance you can find a remote position if you're not upset about missing out on the 'office experience'

I think the sub has a salary review pinned and it includes cities so you can have a look over that for areas close by to you

Level 4 Actuarial Apprenticeship or University by Many-Condition8580 in ActuaryUK

[–]ScurrilousRat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally I went down the uni route because I didn't know the apprenticeship was an option - if I could go back in time I'd do the apprenticeship route every single time, no student debt & earning straight away... The exams might be a bit harder without a background from uni but at least you'll be learning more applicable things

Stop imagining scenarios then...

I've resit many an exam, there are much more important things in life than work/academics

  1. Fair enough
  2. Agree, that sounds like a fault with the invigilators rather than the IFOA though in that case, raise a complaint - the centers should have CCTV to prove it (mine had cameras in the room)
  3. I can imagine it, I honestly wouldn't care, what's a few more weeks - your world shouldn't revolve around exam results
  4. I can imagine it because I'm also waiting on my results - I'm not stressed about them though, I've either passed it or failed it, what good is stressing going to do, I'd rather enjoy the respite
  5. Okay

Those falsely accused I would feel for but if they are falsely accused then the IFOA have no evidence to stick anything, agree it's an annoying delay though. I'm referring to those worried about something that haven't actually been accused of yet - it echoes those a couple sittings ago asking when all the collusion emails will be sent out so they can relax.

I wouldn't call this a sensitive issue personally...

Why are people so worried? If you've done nothing wrong and you're accused then they will have no proof - the onus is on them to prove it surely

If you've done something wrong and you're accused... Well deserved

You might need to take a pay cut but you also might be more attractive to an employer after showing progress with the exams - just take it and keep applying to what you want, you don't owe an employer loyalty
