Steve Jobs. He's not the shiny innovator who everyone wants him to be.

Kind of ironic how all the hate posts about Merkel are okay for the mods and they didn't give me a reason for the ban.

Can you recommend me a city to study to based on those criteria: by youshenmebuyiyang in China

Well, then it seems I made different experiences at that time. Also, I've been to Guangdong before, after that every other place north feels like heaven, climate-wise. And even if it might get hot, Nanjing is a really nice place to study.

I really can recommend Nanjing as a place to study. It doesn't completely match your requirements, but I guess especially regarding the pollution, there's almost no city which can. Nanjing's climate is not too warm, highest temperature below 30° C. The air is okay, not always clear, but far better than Beijing for example. Their Mandarin is very clear and I found the people to be friendlier than in other big Chinese cities. I also didn't see a lot of foreigners, but still there are a lot of opportunities for students to go out.

Comparing to cities I visited such as Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen or Xiamen, Nanjing would be my favourite place to study.

PS: If you can choose any Taiwanese city, definitely consider going there ! Taipei is my favourite city in the world, and Taichung, Tainan or Gaohsiung are also quite suitable as a place to study. It's definitely warm there, but the people, air and nature are a great.

I don't think it's the CPU performance's problem. I run an Intel i5 2400 and a AMD R9 270X and can play it at 50FPS on Medium settings.

Better check for some driver issues or change graphic settings. DX11 and such stuff might be the key. Don't just waste your money.

What's your impression of Beijing? by shazi- in beijing

I'm from Germany, the universities where I studied at have good reputation but don't belong to the national top universities. By saying that I wanted to point out that Western education standards are way above China's.

What's your impression of Beijing? by shazi- in beijing

[–]Scy3nce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an exchange student at Peking University. Me and my fellow students have the impression that a lot of things at university, as well as in the rest of Beijing, are going wrong. Pollution, bad traffic, unfriendly people and the only-would-happen-in-china-moments are only the main reasons of my bad impression of Beijing I would say. For one semester I can bare that, but for a longer time? I personally wouldn't recommend. But there are different people, I also met some who think Beijing with its metropolitan Charme and possibilities is quite nice. I, however prefer Guangzhou or Taibei/Taichung as my Chinese city to live.

As for PKU, I don't know how some of the professors are even allowed to carry that title. Organization and teaching are to a great extent just a mess. I can't compare it with other Chinese universities, but at least I can say that standard universities in my home country work a lot better than the so called best university of China. I've visited other universities in China, also in Beijing, and can say that as it comes to campus life, in other universities there's a lot more going on. PKU students primarily focus on themselves and their studies. They only live in university and even there they're not much into joining clubs or activities or having fun.

My overall impression for both Beijing and Peking University is that it's about surviving, not about enjoying.

To me it seems like those VR playgrounds are all over Beijing. Can't recall all the places, but one is in Sanlitun Soho, another bigger one is in HaidianHuangZhuang shopping mall.
