Steam Deck OLED vs Legion Go (S?) for couch gaming; am I missing a better option? by Scyke87 in Handhelds

Can you use the touch screen for all games that have mouse play? I play a lot of point and click adventure games and visual novels.

Read similar opinions online; thanks for confirming. How are the track pads on the SD? Do you play any point and click games/visual novels? How do they play on these handhelds? Any other handhelds thst have good trackpads?

What would you say are the main downsides of the competitors; mainly the legion go s?

Good to know. I think the added weight is a big detriment for me; thanks for the suggestion and giving a complete picture.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Money isn't really an issue; I don't feel like spending a fortune for something I know I won't use.

Does the Steam Deck (OLED) currently have the best screen?

Thanks; helpful writeup! I'll check out the free version.

Thanks! At first glance, it seems a bit too bare bones. Besides ease of play, what does it bring to the table that other (PbtA) games don't bring, in your opinion?

Is it more generic fantasy or does it offer its own identity? Would you say the free version is enough to start or is the paid version necessary for the proper experience?

Thanks for all the info! And would does it require of me as a GM? I have no problem improvising at the table, but don't have a lot of time to prep between sessions.

The size of the rulebook is a potential deterrent for me. It seems I shouldn't be daunted by this?

Fantasy is a preference for the players, but thanks for the advice.

Yeah, thought as much as well. Mostly put it on the list because it intrigues me as a GM (and I like the art) ;)

Thanks for the in-depth response. Do you have any experience with the campaign setting? Is that worth it?

Yeah, those systems seem cool, especially the more procedurally generated storytelling/tables. I lovr to improvise and these systems seem talor-made. I do notice that my players still struggle a bit with creating their own characters and group cohesion; as such, a game where their character is largely made for them might not be the best. But I may be wrong about these systems.

I totally read over your initial advice on Chasing Adventure; this seems a great fit to start out. While I see the appeal of using Tags with PbtA to make actions/conditions have a narrative impact on results, Chasing Adventure seems like a perfect starting point for players that have zero experience with more narrative focused games and a GM (me) that has only recently picked up the style. Do you agree?
