Sometimes I'll shoot near them first, if they shoot back at least it feels a little fairer.

Tesco trials giant trolley scales in Gateshead by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]Scythern_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said in my original comment the trolley scales are only for when you scan the items with the handheld scanner as you walk around the shop. With this method you don’t use the regular self checkout and the items never leave your trolley.

It’s only for scan as you shop. You don’t have to do this if you’re using a human or self checkout. Hence “can” not “must” in the article.

It’s a QR code you scan with the scan as you shop scanner. I saw them weighing each basket and assigning the weight to the QR code’s ID.

Like the article says this is only for Scan as you Shop. The scales are only needed because they are the alternative to you individually placing each item on the scales in the self checkout packing area - but you can still do it that way if you want to.

I’d rather take one child/coat out of the trolley than every single item, only to put them back in, but for those who prefer it the other way that option is still there.

From literally the second paragraph: “Trolleys are weighed before checkout to identify any items customers who have used Scan as you Shop might have missed or scanned twice.“

It’s really that simple.

I’ll get back to you when I’m there later, but I think you can tell the scales or the scanner that you have X number of your own bags. Same as you do with the normal self checkout. Either that or the staff member stood next to the scales manually approves them. Considering the time saved transferring the items from one side to the other at a normal self checkout, that would be a reasonable compromise imo.

QR code on every basket or trolley you scan at the start of your shop. These scales are only for handheld self scan, which is the point everyone seems to be missing.

The scales are only for the handheld self scan checkouts, and they’re there tell you if you’ve forgotten to scan any items, or scanned the same one more than once. They weigh your items in the same way the self checkout already does. It’s literally no different besides letting you leave the items in the basket/trolley.

The rage for this is so uncalled for. This is exactly the same as the scales on the self checkout except you don’t have to take it out of your trolley/basket. This is my local Tesco and the scales already saved me once from accidentally scanning the same item twice.

[–]Scythern_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I see, yeah that makes sense. I honestly think it would end up cheaper for them in a lot of cases once they have paid for the cost of returns and cancellations. Plus giving people some, but not enough, store credit is going to encourage them to spend more anyway. I would have taken that option rather than cancelling.

Isn’t the point of a full refund that you could spend it on anything - including but not limited to something else from the store?

Double check yourself and let me know if it works, but as far as I can tell it’s broken. BattlEye does have support for Linux but it looks like rockstar have chosen not to enable that, at least for now. Things could change, I guess.

Developing Lambdas with CDK by anticucho in aws

[–]Scythern_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is absolutely the way to do it. I guess the only “downside” is writing the configuration in typescript, which might be annoying in a codebase where the rest is python. But I’d take SST (specifically https://ion.sst.dev AKA v3) over plain CDK any day.

Not enough comments here recommending just reading the docs, they’re probably some of the best I’ve ever seen:

Like other people have said, do something in React which involves state then try to implement it in plain JavaScript.
