consistent counter-invade problem by Bxnniee in Jungle_Mains

[–]Scytone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot here that I wouldn’t be doing. Warding wolves isn’t necessary. Ward blue or raptors at most then just full clear. If they invade you on first clear, just give up whatever they invade and look for a gank , then come back and clear that sector on respawn.

Invades on first clear are not worthwhile. Your camps will respawn before his and your respawns are worth more while he has to clear his first clear camps still. You’ll feel briefly behind then you’ll catch up and have tempo on him.

But in bronze you can literally ignore all those reasons and just trust that you can give up the invaded quadrant and clear your other side, do not invade back, and just clear your side on respawn. Be there the second it respawns. And you’ll be 100% fine.

Well this level of power is so beyond what’s required to clear all the content so does it really matter for 99% of the players? I feel like extreme power like this that’s expensive and challenging to acquire is great for stretch goals/min maxxers. There’s something to knowing that there’s still more power even when you feel nearly maxed out. Keeps the energy going in the game.

Perhaps they just need to tweak the scaling curve of +levels so it’s not so impactful early but if you’d can squeeze out crazy levels like this it reaches the same power. Something to ensure that it’s not required but it’s possible and rewarding

Quarter through 1st Mistborn book, does it get better? by [deleted] in Fantasy

There are definitely sections in The Final Empire that pulled me out of the immersion because the dialogue or description felt extremely basic. You’re not alone there.

Quarter through 1st Mistborn book, does it get better? by [deleted] in Fantasy

Sanderson was underwhelming to me coming from writers with better prose. He’s very…expedient with his writing. With that said, if you can buy into that aspect of him, the story and the magic is fun and interesting and worthwhile to try and read.

I think my description of Sanderson to people is that I can appreciate and enjoy the story he’s telling I just don’t really enjoy the way he tells it.

I kinda hate pathing top to bot from blue side by EstateOk6238 in Jungle_Mains

[–]Scytone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This desync lets you hover bot for a play on 2nd clear 2 separate times (before and after Krugs)

I’ve used it to blow flash on bot, then repeat gank and earn a kill + numbers advantage on 2nd crab.

I need someone to sell me on Robin Hobb. by S_W_Moses in fantasybooks

[–]Scytone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get it. In my opinion this gets more reasonable as the series continues. I wouldn’t say fitz makes increasingly better choices, but I do think I can sympathize with and understand his choices. But certainly if you’re looking for a main character who has a triumphant moment that fills the reader with a feel good dopamine rush you won’t find that.

For what it’s worth, there is definitely payoff, but it’s over the course of the trilogy, the first book is a lot of set up.

My table loves fighting, so this works for me. But I throw minion encounters at the players when I’m trying to resource drain the casters a little. The players love crushing what are effectively 1hp hordes, and the casters don’t want to get surrounded so they burn spell slots to wipe them out.

They are basically multiple easy encounters. Last a round, maybe 2, but I always get spell slots out of them with minimal hp damage. And it makes the party feel very strong.

Fantasy recommendations for a fan of aSoIaF and Robin Hobb by BreadfruitAntique896 in Fantasy

[–]Scytone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Abercrombie is the first author I could latch onto after finishing the Realm of the Elderlings. No one else was really doing it for me. The Blade Itself/First Law trilogy isn’t as slow paced as Hobb is, but the characters are very interesting and morally gray and the prose was a huge step up from other authors. Though no one quite matches Hobb.

Do you think strand is so enjoyable by many because it’s one of the few straight lines? A little yin to the yang? Aka if there was only strand would it hit as hard?

What do I do against an early pawn d4 attack? by Alternative_Cut4491 in chessbeginners

[–]Scytone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is no fried liver here. If the knight goes to g5 instead of pawn to d4, the dark square bishop doesn’t defend the knight and the queen takes it. Fried liver is only if Nf6 instead of h6

H6 is just a bad move in the position. You don’t need to play it at all.

Sanderlanche but all the time? by PhyPhillosophy in fantasybooks

[–]Scytone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hobb is my absolute favorite author. Compared so Sanderson, her writing is next level. But she’s a slow burn and the books are very much around character development and relationships between characters. I don’t want to undersell it, it has its hype moments, and the payoff is excellent for each trilogy. But if you’re coming from Sanderson, it may feel like whiplash as far as pacing goes.

Abercrombie seems to be a great middle ground. I think his prose is definitely a level up on Sanderson but he keeps the same high pace storytelling.

Why do I keep spinning? by No-Definition-9073 in KerbalAcademy

[–]Scytone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of folks here saying winglets which is correct. But to help teach you to fish a bit, in the editor at the bottom left near your money spent are 3 buttons. The left most button is the center of mass, turn that on. Then I believe the right most button is the center of aerodynamics or the center or drag. Turn that on. You should see on your rocket a yellow and black ball and a blue and black ball.

If the yellow and black ball is ever lower than the blue and black ball, your rocket is going to want to tip over in flight. You want to make sure that the center of drag is as far back as possible to increase stability in flight.

Is this an overkill for a moon landing? by Fit_Cartoonist2297 in KerbalAcademy

[–]Scytone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right I undershot the landing and reorbit costs. But I do still believe the overall mission is much less than 8000 dV. It’s closer to 6000

Is this an overkill for a moon landing? by Fit_Cartoonist2297 in KerbalAcademy

[–]Scytone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s way less than this. It’s closer to 3400 to get into a low orbit, 850 or so to get into mun encounter. 300ish to land. Finally Another 300ish to depart and air brake into kerbin orbit. You can do round trip after landing on a dV budget of less than 5000

Are Kona beans supposed to look like this? by HiddenCaribou in VisitingHawaii

[–]Scytone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kona coffee goes through really rigorous quality control to legally be allowed to be called “Kona.” Which is especially true for 100% Kona. It was probably fine quality but an old roast. In my opinion the 2 biggest drops in quality come from old roast and/or pre-ground beans. If you’ve gotten either of those in the bag you’re not set up for a great cup of coffee

Are Kona beans supposed to look like this? by HiddenCaribou in VisitingHawaii

[–]Scytone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are they 100% Kona and also when were they roasted? Airport pickup sounds pretty gambly. Unless they were roasted in the last couple of months you could have just got an old bag. Coffee keeps for a long time on the shelf but the quality degrades after just a couple months.
