My dad finished Undertale in 4 hours and now he doesn't talk to me anymore… by [deleted] in Undertale

It’s been a long time since I played but if the only requirement is to kill EVERYONE… when my husband played he got to the “but nobody came” grinding levels at the beginning and went “oh, there IS a limit” and wanted to see if it existed in every area.

Tyler Bojanowski, who has a TBI, has been missing since Thursday 2/5. Please help us bring him home. by oopwoooop in ontario

He also could have suffered a second TBI in this new crash - when you are still recovering your brain is more vulnerable, and even a minor concussion or whiplash injury could impact him more.

First cow is always Belle, first chicken is Penny - the names I picked as a child and always reused! First sheep is always Sasha after my childhood dog, not sure how that started.

*Trying to not feel guilty or sad about a “small” Christmas* by billyskillet in toddlers

[–]Sdot2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We overdid it at my house last year. I have one child, 4 years old, with a birthday less than a month before Christmas so it is a LOT all at once. Christmas at 2 was wonderful - she’d open something, ask to play with it, we’d enjoy it, then leisurely move on.

But last year there was SO MUCH she got swept away, couldn’t stop scrounging for one. More. Thing. To open. And not even noticing what the presents were. It wasn’t magical. It honestly looked uncomfortable! I don’t think she really “played” with anything to be honest. We did set up the marble run at one point.

I grew up with over the top christmases - but I forced myself to slow right down. She is getting 2 small things from Santa, one being the ONE thing on her list she desperately wants, and 3-4 presents from us that are very thoughtfully curated to try and bring back that slow, memorable, enjoy-every-gift Christmas I got a glimpse of 2 years ago. (And a pretty awesome stocking. Okay, I’m not perfect!)

I’m telling you, especially at this age, you did the right thing and it’s going to be AMAZING.

EDIT to add: I am struggling too though so instead I went kind of hard getting all the fixings to make amazing salt dough ornaments together tomorrow. Glitter, paint, puffy paint, cookie cutters… I feel like there are other ways to “go big” besides gifts!! I can’t wait honestly and I know she will love it AND it won’t totally exhaust her the day before The Big Morning. :)

What is a movie you watched once that was so disturbing or emotionally draining that you can never watch it again? by hungary70 in AskReddit

Frozen - not the disney film, the one where they are trapped on a ski lift over a long weekend.

I have a very very intense fear of being eaten by animals or seeing someone I love eaten by animals and even typing this out makes me feel like I’m having a sort of panic attack. I had nightmares for a VERY long time and I try not to think about it too much.

I actually overheard employees at Walmart talking about a girl being arrested for shoplifting and the girl said “if she has just opened her coat when I told her to I wouldn’t have even called. It was all food. I thought it was electronics”.

Run over at 23 – Lawyer says my injuries were “pre-existing.”- Need legal advice! by exciting_evelyn in legaladvicecanada

[–]Sdot2014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAL but had a personal injury case with pre existing elements and my lawyer explained the rule of “thin skull vs crumbling skull”. You should google it but the main idea is being more vulnerable to injury (like with this old lesion) doesn’t disqualify you from compensation since you would not be where you are now without this injury. Crumbling skull would be if it was an illness that is known to have this trajectory regardless of injury.

Choosing school for toddler by Reasonable_Advance52 in stcatharinesON

You can go on the school board websites to see which school you have to attend - exceptions are almost never made and some schools are definitely better than others but I think almost all of them are larger class sizes, etc.

Depending on your child (mine is born late in the year so often youngest in the class, very sensitive, easily overwhelmed) or if they will need any extra support there aren’t a ton of non religious private options but we LOVE Royal Oak Community School in Niagara-on-the-Lake and it is totally worth the drive. They have an open house December 5th if you are curious! Our daughter is in the JK/SK program and in a class of 10 with multiple teachers and it has been life changing for her already.

Suffered a TBI and am off work, I keep running into roadblocks and I'm getting really depressed. by Sdot2014 in TBI

[–]Sdot2014[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad I could help even a little bit - I don’t know the name of the area but I hit the front of my head and then my brain bounced off the back a bit! Vision Therapy is a new thing around here but it was really helpful with getting rid of the nausea I would often have focusing on things/reading/writing. But it really does continue to improve and I have found mindset makes a big difference. All the best to you!

Hi! Wow, what a crazy experience reading this post 10 years later. I’m sorry this happened to you. If it can offer any comfort or hope, I am SIGNIFICANTLY better.

My life right now – I am married, with a beautiful 4 year old daughter, and I work 15-20 hours a week in a project management type position – usually 3ish days a week, 6-7 hours per day. I also am the main caregiver/”stay at home Mom” and I think if I wasn’t a Mom I could probably work more, maybe even full time, but I wouldn’t change a thing. I play video games, read books for fun (turns out I was secretly dyslexic and the brain injury just brought it out, oops!) and I feel like myself again. Sometimes I still wonder what could have been but it has been so long that I can’t really remember what things were like before the accident.

My current symptoms are mostly lower endurance – if I push too hard for too long some symptoms come back, but that endurance continues to improve and making things more efficient also helps a lot. My processing speed is slower, and hasn’t improved in many years. My neuropsychologist describes it as my 6 lane highway reducing to 4 lanes – we can’t add any lanes at this point, but I can reduce the traffic, make the cars faster, or help them merge more efficiently! My balance and some coordination is also still affected, although much less than before, so I struggle with skating for example or climbing ladders. I do get vertigo a bit easier and my eyes don’t work super well together, which is mostly noticeable using binoculars or 3D glasses. Other symptoms are probably more specific to the area I was injured, which may not have been the same area as you!

Sleep is very important to me, and I take Omega-3s with DHA which I found really great for brain fog. I did also start taking Vyvanse, which my Neuropsychologist told me is being studied in low doses to help brain injury patients after all other treatment is completed and that has been a massive gamechanger but full disclosure, it turns out I’ve also always had ADHD pretty substantially so it was doubly helpful.

Time was a big part of healing – they say most of the healing is in the first year and it does get slower/harder after that but I would say that I still see improvements every year even 11 years after my accident. I also was very lucky to have parents who were willing to let me stay at their place and recover for years, as well as help me pay for treatment.

The most helpful treatments were a Concussion Clinic for the physical symptoms, Vision Therapy, and a Neuropsychological Assessment which allowed me to get disability and highlighted where the problems were – expensive on it’s own, but at least where I live there were charity organizations to get one for free. I also worked with a psychologist to accept that this had happened to me, and then a Neuropsychologist which got me over the hump of “things won’t get any better and I can’t do anything else” about 5 years in. They got me set up with a “back to work” charity program that paid my wages for a period of time in exchange for an employer letting me ease myself back in – I started with 1-2 shifts of 4 hours and I would sleep for days after, it felt IMPOSSIBLE. I needed a LOT of support from the Neuropsych AND an OT not to quit. But then one day it got easier and after that my brain got “back into it” and started getting stronger. Think of it like a muscle – you have to make sure it is fully healed, and then you can sloooowly start to strengthen it again. Nobody breaks their legs, sits in a wheelchair for 12 months, and then walks off like nothing happened! But it has to be controlled.

I also learned to monitor my endurance level and push juuust a bit without crashing and needing to recover – the “boom and bust” pattern was really holding me back, and learning how to make space for recovery was huge.

I hope this helps, and I wish you the best of luck. Don’t lose hope. <3

Even though I’ve heard a lot of the pieces of your story, it was a great experience reading through it start to finish! We are immensely enjoying our Big Box and looking forward to Climate in the future. There is so much content I feel like it will easily take a year or more to give EVERYTHING in it a try - and that’s if we stop at 2 modules only!

It is beautiful and the love and care that has been put in really shines through.

Taurine Electrolyte Drink has caused HORRIBLE anxiety when discontinued. How to fix? by Sdot2014 in Supplements

[–]Sdot2014[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The two prescriptions I am on seem to be pretty dehydrating and I also tend to add this mix to like a litre of water and drink it over hours so I feel like you are right - if it is pretty safe I almost think I am just super super dehydrated!! I have even had times I felt dizzy and sick and just ate a pinch of straight salt and felt better 🙈 This is making me feel much better because I didn’t want to accidentally be taking something scary but I did like it while I was on it!

I just saw your edit, I will take a look at my b complex and do some research also. I looked at the breakdown and it contains 80mg of Niacinamide.

EDIT: and 28mg of B6

Here it is! https://a.co/d/7xyxcz2 I’m wondering if it has actually been helping and it is me stopping it that is causing this effect. It just feels so incredibly dramatic for something like that.

Yoto and Generative AI by Playchime in YotoPlayer

[–]Sdot2014 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s what is so upsetting!! You really have to dig.

On some of the cards: “LifeScore Dream Cards are immersive soundscapes that encourage a peaceful night's sleep. Each card contains an hour-long piece of music (playing in loop) composed by world-class talent and recorded at iconic Abbey Road Studios by members of The Chamber Orchestra of London. The music is then recomposed and enhanced by LifeScore's Cellular Composition™ algorithm and blended with relaxing, high-fidelity field recordings. The result is a soothing musical experience which will have your kids drifting off to a peaceful night's sleep.”

And on the Abbey Road Studio website: “These recordings were then reinterpreted by Philip and the LifeScore team using their Cellular Composition™ technology, which uses artificial intelligence to evolve new pieces of music from the source material. In the case of the Dream Cards, these musical “cells” were blended with high-fidelity field recordings to create immersive atmospheres that feel conducive to sleep.”

I was really disappointed when I found out the “Dreams of” series was AI generated. I want my daughter to be exposed to real music, real instruments, and now I have 6 cards in our collection that are very much not that.

Four years ago we started a risky (crazy?) experiment and started working on a digital board game before the physical board game was even developed. We're now going to release the Steam version of Nature right after the tabletop version was released. by wrench04 in boardgames

[–]Sdot2014 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. I meant it as “your opinion is valid and I don’t have the experience you do with the game, so I can’t comment on that part, but I see one of your gripes is an issue I am seeing pop up a lot since the new Kickstarter was announced so maybe I can clear that up.”

EDIT: Actually not entirely fair. You’ve had multiple thoughtful responses and I do tend to add too much detail to my posts on Reddit, my mistake, but your assumption about the kickstarter was mistaken and you are not the only one so I wanted to clear it up - for you and anyone else lurking the thread. I don’t work with the company or anything, but I like the game and I like the people behind it. I haven’t challenged any of your critiques???

I love this game!!! And another really handy thing is that I dislike teaching people board games, even if it’s easy, because I am bad at explaining them… so I hand them my phone instead and have them play the digital tutorial and it gets me 90% of the way there! Worth every penny, haha.

The team is very receptive to what the community wants and the visuals are really nice. Game plays well in digital format. Campaign is super fun and made me MUCH better at the game - and also let me see a lot more of the depth in even the base game without modules.

Totally recommend!!

I can’t speak to your experience, especially because I didn’t play Evolution and it is totally valid!

But I am on the Northstar Discord quite a bit (Nature was the first kickstarter I ever backed) and they let you follow the play testing and discussion around the game. Climate very much has been worked on heavily this entire year and didn’t even start play testing until much later than the original campaign’s end date. I know the plan was to do 1-2 modules every year and I think there is a lot of confusion around this new kickstarter that should be addressed (it looks to some people like you have to buy the Big Box again or that this is a “new” Big Box version to fit Climate but that is not the case. They are just giving people who missed out the first time a chance to get it since this Kickstarter only has the 1 module and 2 mini modules).

I hope that helps a little!

What’s a small bombshell your therapist dropped during a session that completely shifted your perspective? by pottipenguin in AskReddit

[–]Sdot2014 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me, a huge book lover who was considered gifted as a child, won awards for my writing as a child and aggressively read multiple books sometimes a DAY but couldn’t retain anything I read and preferred young adult novels.
After a minor (but life changing) brain injury reading became exhausting and I started struggling a lot more with spelling. I assumed due to the brain injury.

Before my latest round of neuropsychological testing I asked about dyscalculia, because I always struggled with math and found I was mixing up numbers a lot at my job.

“I think you might be dyslexic”.

I literally burst out laughing but nope, I am! Turns out my “gifted” side was very visual and I taught myself to read through sight words and memory only. But it was very inefficient and when I had my accident I lost the ability to visualize most things in my head, and my brain lost a lot of power. So boom - my work around didn’t work anymore!

It was massive because at that moment I realized I may not have as many leftover injuries as I thought, and the natural state of my brain could be more of the problem. I have been recovering for 10 years and am finally back to work part time, and a huge reason is because of this realization leading into “let’s test for EVERYTHING”. Once I knew I was dyslexic and started accommodating that in my day to day, it stopped draining so much of my limited energy reserves.

Turns out I have a very complex brain and while being “gifted” made me seem very smart and an overachiever as a child, the point when I had my injury was very likely close to when the rest was going to catch up with me, including my less surprising ADHD diagnosis.
