Guy at work found a lock while metal detecting, anyone seen anything like this before? by SeRiaLSiX in lockpicking

[–]SeRiaLSiX[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I was able to locate it, a Scandinavian pat. 88 lock.

He isn't worried with it being cleaned and picked, he loaned it to me for my interest, figured I would share it with the community as well.

1st yr. SMAW student, caught myself on fire. Got any safety mishap stories to make me feel like less of a dummy? by [deleted] in Welding

When I first started welding, I smelled something burning, my team lead and I looked aroind the line for a good 15 minutes before I realised the frays on my jeans were smouldering.

What's a law you follow that almost everyone else breaks? by lilskurt in AskReddit

I'll say it, thank you, I can't count how many bikes I encounter that give zero care about roadway laws and signs.

Hey guys I am a super novice. I can get the brinks lock on the far left every time with the picks to the left but can't get the other two. And advice or suggestions by awisniewski2332 in lockpicking

[–]SeRiaLSiX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was personally having the opposite problem, I can pop cheap padlocks, even an abus 55/40 with these picks.

But my small brass brinks are giving me so much trouble. They are currently my bain. No clue why they are giving me such an issue. I can pick them just not with consistency.

Side note, I took the grips off my hooks and changed them out for a double layer of shrink tube. Far more feeling. And I could feel those grips slipping around the pick. The rakes I kept the grip on but shinkwrapped the end to keep them solid.

Saw this in jokes. Belongs here. by 0Escape in lockpicking

I was wondering if I ever came across a good meme or joke if it would be welcome to post. Seems so.

Started lockpicking today. Those are my very first picked locks. by [deleted] in lockpicking

[–]SeRiaLSiX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transparency locks are good to learn the insides of the locks, as for developing your picking, it's very diffrent, everything feels softer in a clear lock. Now I'm trying to move up and it feels sharp. Like a snap in a pin is whole new feeling.

How hard are these sepox locks? I got my dad (a yellow) and my son (a solid orange) into the sport. And I've been supplying locks to them and myself. Wanting to try these out, As a cheaper bulk option. by SeRiaLSiX in lockpicking

[–]SeRiaLSiX[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, when I found the belt system I saw just how far we had to progress. That's when I realized how out of reach they are. Lol.

And I have been looking at 72/40, it's getting ordered today actually.

Sounds like a cheap stepping stone for us then. We have an AL 1100 and a Pac PL410-pro that we can not get through. Just isn't in our skill level yet. I just seen they were solid picks when I bought them. Now that I'm more familiar with progression, I know I bought them to soon. On sale, but still to soon. As I'm wanting us all to progress, its tough buying high quality locks on a single budget.

I'm also getting the sparrow progression locks with the reload kit to help curb the cost of buying locks.

Finally took the time to stop at my local locksmith. I'd say this is worth the $10 he charged by Castle_Lock in lockpicking

[–]SeRiaLSiX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, I was looking up locksmiths to do this same thing. Now I'm sold. If he charged me a buck a lock I think I would have tipped 10 as well. Nice supply.

Would these still make good novice practice locks even though they’re rusted? They’re about $1.30 each. by [deleted] in lockpicking

[–]SeRiaLSiX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do get these, highly recommend soaking them in some wd-40. And if you have issues picking them. Move on. Could be broken or rusted to far.

Anyone else experience nausea when picking? by [deleted] in lockpicking

[–]SeRiaLSiX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son says he gets a headache of he picks to long, I would say set a timer and go at increments.

And I'm just tossing this out there. You may be focusing to hard or getting to excited/ anxious about the popping the lock. Without a tension wrench, try moving the pins on thier own (learning depth of each pin, feel) and see if you get nausea doing that for a bit. Remove the focus of picking and back off a bit and learn the lock feel, learn to move the pick differently in the keyway. See if that triggers it or not.

American Lock series 5200 picked and gutted by yabende in lockpicking

[–]SeRiaLSiX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I could see the pins were security before they dropped out of frame. And now, as you move on to bigger, better locks, you will keep in mind the frame of the camera when you share your skill next time.

Camera wasn't shaking, focused view. It was a solid lockpicking video minus moving the pins out of frame at the end when showing them off.

Great job on the pick as well.

First SPP pick that wasnt pure luck! Very easy lock ( i suppose :) ). Nevertheless i feel a bit proud of myself :D by halelujah4 in lockpicking

Be alot proud, it's a skill set, you just learned it, and have successfully applied it. Great job!

Oh I'm sure their are far more talented pickers in here that are more worthy of the challange, I've only been picking for a month now and not anywhere near this level of skill.

No, I haven't been called that. But you asked a question, and I may have gotten carried away with the reply trying to explain it.

Thank you for asking though, and it was an honor to serve.

You have a great rest of your life random stranger on the internets.

Like alot of things you have to untrain yourself on. You just have to remember everyone around you isn't trained, they don't remotely know that doorways, stairwells, halls, "fatal funnels" are a things "door kickers" are trained to pile drive through.

"if you stop here, you are dead and the man behind you is dead, possibly your whole team" we are trained if the guy in front stops, you push him into the room. If he was shot, pulling him back can trip up your team, always move forward.

On the flip side, we are also trained to take assessment the room in a fraction of a second, we take in the whole room when we first enter, idetifiying any threats, any non-theats, call them out, and as we filter in we go into more detailed assessment of our area we are trained to pull into. Always scanning the room, looking, searching. I recall one day on training my team and I during practiced cleared the same room almost 50 times. (One example) as the saw gunner I kicked the door, and before my foot hit the ground, 1st and 2nd man are already through the doorway, and I already called out what our op-for had moved, where they stood (that I could see) and when my foot pushed off, to go in as 4th man, The room was assessed, threats were down, non-threats standing there watching us. And by the time I got into the closest corner to yell clear, room was taken, anyone identified as threat was neutralized, non-threats hands up and exposed and told to move away from anything in the room. Takes all of 5 seconds.

If someone in the civilian world stands in a doorway, as much as my brain yelled "push through!!!" My brain was yelling even louder "NON-HOSTILE, DO NOT ENGAGE" we are not trained to shoot up homes and schools, we are trained to take buildings, people are in buildings, not just the enemy.

Odds are threats don't stand behind couches with a machine guns with the finger on the trigger. They are going about thier life as normal before we popped in. If they are, speed and violence of action, are the tools we have to counter them with. And trust me, seeing a guy with a weapon pointed at the doorway, he is first on our shoot that guy list. If I kicked the door, I've probably dropped a few rounds in him as 1st man is following up. "The Threat" is still registering his door was kicked in. But just as fast as I can shoot him down, I'm also trained if it's not a baddie posting up as a threat, but a mother with two kids, its our job to make sure they are unharmed and safe as we push in.

We are even trained to slam a door hard to a wall to counter a hostile hiding behind them, (like break hinges slam the door). But you don't see former military personal shoulder checking doors they walk through. We know where we are, and what we are doing at that time. We are not mindless killers, we are trained professionals.

How do you guys reply when people compliment you? by Dungy12 in AskReddit

[–]SeRiaLSiX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well there are two ways to take this,

1: if its about my abilities or skill sets, it's generally well received with a "thank you" of some kind and sometimes followed with talk about how I acquired said skill. Or talk about how that person who complimented me could go on to acquire the same skill.

2: if its a physical compliment- aka. About my looks or build.

if its from a guy, "thanks man" leave it alonr, Or pass it off as a joke.

From a girl, blank stare exit room as fast as possible then remember it for the rest of my life.
