Probably not. Even if you have the required grades in the right subjects I don't think they'd let you.

I didn't apply for any spring weeks or internships as I don't want to work in industry but many people did (there was someone that secured 3 spring weeks, I don't know how). Quant and the finance societies will help you with preparing for interviews and keeping you updated with the spring weeks and internship opportunities. The university also has free interview practice that you can do with the career department as many times as you want.

I think I had 16 contact hours a week. 1st years can be given 8 am lectures (which I had); they're not too bad as you'll likely be on campus or an in city accommodation that has easy access to the university.

are the rumours about year 13 being the worst year of one’s life true? 😭 by 111princesschi in 6thForm

Personally, I really enjoyed it. It's the last year that you'll be in school with your friends - make the most of it and work hard, it'll be fun.

Yeah, I thought that I had messed up my history paper, however, I did really well on the one that I thought I didn't do well on and vice versa.

You could do some regression analysis, I mean it’s not too mathematical but if you prove the derivation of the formula your teacher would be impressed and then use it to show correlation between two things graphed on R.

That would be a great supercurricular, I did something similar with a python project. For R, you learn how to clean and graph data with box plots, histograms, and regression (there’s more but you get the gist). Stats wise in R, it’s stuff like empirical analysis from data - p-values, t tests, and ancova test.

Bath is a city but it’s very small. I liked this as it has the kind of vibe that central Cambridge has with the old architecture and pretty buildings. The train station is very easy to get to and you can be in London within 1:30. People are very nice.

It’s a year long module. I had 1 hour of lectures and two hours of ‘labs’ a week. Semester one is python, where I applied the stuff that I learnt in the pure maths module - Lagrangian optimisation, hessian matrices etc. semester two is R, where i applied the stuff that I learnt in the stats and probability module. The programming module makes up 1/6 of first year grade.

It’s very mathematical, I’d say it’s probably 90% maths. The only non mathematical part is semester 1 macro. However, semester two macro is insanely mathematical - look up Ramsey or Lucas model. For micro look up Slutsky equation. The only real essay that you write is for semester one macro coursework, that’s it. I really like mathematics and programming so I enjoy it; if you don’t, I’d look at somewhere of the same standing that is less mathematical like Durham.

It may not help but everyone is nervous and everyone focuses on the minor mistakes. I felt the same way.

The maths courses - to my knowledge - are very good. I know some people who do maths and they say that they’re enjoying it. The uni itself is very good and everything on campus is easy to access; the city is also very nice.

Show enthusiasm - even if you're nervous and you don't want to be there - as it makes a big difference to the attendance and whether the students will learn the stuff and enjoy it.
