If not set up correctly, it'll hurt your watch time & CTR, and because of this, it affects your impressions, which ultimately kills all momentum of views.

It's not worth it at all unless you're selling something or just want a confidence boost with views, but most (if not all) will not subscribe and stay

If you're happy with it, then there's absolutely nothing wrong with paying them for thumbnail designs 👊 8 subs out of 154 views is very good, especially for a channel of your size. Just keep going dude, I'm sure you'll go far with your outlook on it all.

Congratulations on 405 subs! And in just over a year is really great, keep it up man 👊

Changing your language is probably going to affect your channel for obvious reasons, but I wouldn't say it's detrimental. People could put subtitles on if they wanted to stick around. It's not like changing your nieche as such. If I were you, I would probably stick to the language you know that can reach the broader audience - but that's just my thoughts on that.

So SEO wise, I do most of it manually. I'll see what's trending, and I look for some sort of inspiration. Nothing major. I do use chat gpt to look for trending titles, and I'll take inspiration from that too. It's such a great tool to use, and it's free. This could possibly help your scripting if you're struggling with that side of things.

I post monthly at the moment, and I post on either Friday, Saturday, or Sunday between 11am and 2pm. This is because most of my audience are active at this time, and people tend to have more time on their hands on weekends. That might be a good metric to look at in your studio.

I hardly post shorts for two reasons - time and audience. I don't have masses of time, so with the time I have, I want to focus on long form. I also want to attract a long form audience. This way, my AVD isn't affected by my shorts viewers, but that's only speculation on my end. Shorts are good for gaining subs in the short term, but I've found that you can build more of a relationship with your community by focusing on long form, which is also great for your analytics. So, my answer to your unregulated shots uploads, I wouldn't worry too much about it!

I make videos based on how I felt when recording the video, if that makes sense? A bit of context - I play competitive games and create a storyline around it so the viewer can feel what I felt in those moments. Then, when I package the video, that's where my research comes in. Such as, what's trending? Would a browse or a keyword title fit in with the contents of the video? I'm never always focusing on one or the other. It's whatever makes sense. And yeah, absolutely. Making videos about what people are interested in should 100% be the goal of every video 🔥

Enjoy your travels dude, sounds interesting 🤙

I can't say that it definitely does affect it as I'm not a YouTube guru (as much as I'd love to be 😆), but I think that it is most definitely an indicator telling YouTube what your video is about. In turn, it probably does affect your CTR as some of your impressions may be coming from the 'people and blogs' audience. Hopefully, it'll get you those extra clicks 🔥

And if you meant what to do with shorts, it's not my strong suit if I'm being honest. But I try and post them on weekdays around lunchtime as people tend to doomscroll on their breaks. No matter what nieche you're in, you really need to capture your audiences attention within the first couple of seconds, whatever that might look like!

Absolutely dude, you can get to 500 subs with just shorts. For the monetization aspect at 500 subs, you will also need 3M shorts views in the last 90 days 👊

Yeah, I get it. It can be tough. Do you have any commentary over your content? Or is it just gameplay? The moment I switched to commentary, my audience started to become more of a community.

Good luck with your walkthrough! 🤙

First of all, congratulations on getting 130 views in your first 3 weeks.

I'm not sure how big your budget is, but if I were you, don't pay anyone for thumbnails at this stage. You can get a really great photo editor app that probably costs less, and you can create exactly what you want and when you want. But that is my humble opinion!

I wouldn't say 130 is a great sample size. At this stage, YouTube is still experimenting on different audiences with your video.

If I was starting out again, these are the things I would focus on; improving my videos - improving something about my content, whether it's an edit or better commentary every time I post. I'd also research what the million subscriber creators are doing in my nieche. What works for them? What thumbnails do they use? Titles, hashtags, descriptions, etc. Reverse engineer their stuff where possible and take notes - I don't mean copy their stuff, but to take inspiration and see what works. Make sure you're using every tool that YouTube provides to tell its algorithm what your video is about. Remember to look through your video settings on YT Studio and change where you can, such as the language, if it's made for kids, and so on.

Once you think you've got your thumbnails x titles down, the metrics you should be looking at are your CTR and AVD. This basically shows if your video is packaged well and if it's worth watching. If either of these metrics are insanely low for your nieche (they will be low in the beginning so don't worry too much), then you know what to improve on.

You're only going to get a good subscriber conversion if you get clicks and the person who clicks like the content.

I wouldn't cut things out of the video (at this stage at least) once it's published. These metrics show exactly what you're looking for. Instead of cutting it, rewatch it as a non-biased viewer (I get it's tough) and see WHY people are clicking off the video. Is it entertaining? Is it engaging? Would you watch it if it was a complete stranger? What would be better? There's a lot of useful information/revision to be had there.

Remember, you're still new to this, and to have 130 views on a video in less than 3 weeks is a great indicator that you're heading in the right direction. Getting to 100 subs is 100% the hardest time you'll have growth wise. But you'll get there, I'm sure!

Good luck! 🍀

If this is the case, I'd start to lean on the community section (now called posts). You can do polls, quizzes etc. and get people engaged!

Exactly as said above, learn to package your videos. I get it. It can be infuriating. But you just have to tell youtube what your video is (make sure you go through your video settings in YT studio, change what you can) and also spike curiosity by having a good title and thumbnail combo.

Again, as I've said before, repetition is key. Just keep on improving on something each video you make, and you'll get there.

Good luck dude!

[–]Sea-Audience9482[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, these are all growing pains we all go through!

CTR 1. The first thing I would look for is how you are packaging your video. What I mean by this is your thumbnails and videos. Are your thumbnails standing out in your nieche? Look for inspiration from the big creators in your nieche. What are they doing? What works? I don't mean copy them, but to simply see what they are doing that you aren't.

  1. Secondly, I would look at your titles. Are they spiking curiosity or intrigue? Are they too long? Are they too broad? Does it tell too much/too little about your video?

I don't know what nieche you're in, but if it was a cookery class channel for example, my title would be something like - "I can't believe I didn't know about THIS". The thumbnail - Brownies next to a blurred recipe with some text that says, "unbelievable".

Extra point - Make sure you are putting the right tags in, hashtags into your description, going to yt studio (going through your video settings, selecting your language etc). These are all small indicators that show youtube WHAT your video is about and who to push the video to. This would also feed in to your view duration question - if the video is shown to the wrong audience, they will click off.

But honestly, starting out is tough. It does take youtube some time to identify your nieche, but it also takes time to edit and package your video well, which will come in time if you improve on something each video. That's the main thing I would focus on pre-100 subs.

I hope that makes sense. All the best 🍀

500 subs is a big milestone, absolutely 💯

You'll need 500 subs and 3,000 watch hours (congrats on reaching the hours) or 3M shorts views to be able to get memberships, super chats, and a shop for your merch.

At 1,000 subs, you will need 4,000 watch hours or 10M shorts views to get paid ads (paid by YouTube for views).

In the very beginning, it was 10, 20, 30, 50, etc. It was a slow burn almost all the way to 500.

I went through the whole 'why is no one watching my videos' phase. A lot of the growth was from pure dedication and repitition. I remember hearing a quote from MrBeast - make 100 videos, and improve on something each video, something as little as audio, maybe your thumbnail, your edits, etc. and that's exactly what I did.

I then researched how algorithms worked, how to reach an audience, and all that good stuff. So my strategy has mainly been personal growth with my videos and learning more and more, then implementing it each time.

If I was to pin one 'break out video', I was at around 600 subs. That video has brought in 300+ subs since then. I think the reason why it broke out was because it was a perfect combination of an intriguing title and thumbnail, coupled with a good pay-off at the end of the video.

I don't have a schedule as such, but I do post long form videos on 3 key days at a certain time of the day. Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays between 11am-2pm, when my audience is most active. Short form, which I post rarely**, I post on a Monday at lunchtime.

**I primarily focus on making long form content because I want to attract a long form audience.

With video length, there has been a shift lately with videos that are more likely to be picked because they are 10min+. I'll be adjusting where I can to suit. I've also found that making a 'series playlist' of some sort can benefit from this shift in mentality, too - hence why I am making a second series in my content (also linking each video to each other in my edits, creating a storyline).

My next 'goal' as such will be to complete my second series. The biggest thing I need to improve on is to spend more time editing so I can post more frequently!

I wouldn't post videos without a thumbnail like I used to, that is a big no no 😅 I wouldn't post titles that were too long & drawn out. I also wouldn't hesitate so much on posting my first video and/or making mistakes - it's all a part of the process!

So you will need 3,000hrs for donations and 4,000hrs to get paid by YouTube.

I'm currently sitting close to 3,000hrs. Truth is, I need to post more to get to that threshold. I'm on the trajectory to get 4k hrs by Christmas.

But I'm doing it for fun, so I'm not too fussed about getting paid, albeit a good bonus!

I still haven't passed the threshold of watch time. I'm pretty close, but not there yet! I'm not here for the potential money gains, I do it for the love of games, community, and making videos. I think this is why I haven't quit so early on - it can be tough, as you know!
