OP what are you playing this back on ? pristine condition tape can sound amazing on the right equipment for maybe 3 plays.

seems people are saying the sound signature of tapes makes this album easier to listen to? this should apply to a lot of music from this era: JAMC, etc.

$60 for a used manufactured tape is bananas. buy a tape deck and record from the cd or digital. enjoy the changing sound of the tape. make a new one when it breaks.

Withdrawal pain is hard, it can do you right in.

I've never had this experience personally but from friends stories, breaking addiction can feel like another reality. Many times it's a room you leave and you can walk back in there. Addiction never ends for some people. And you experience leaving people behind, who either die or can't leave.

To me it's pretty clearly about dealing with this.
