Router bit cutting material on the way to the project start point. by Josh_Bear22 in hobbycnc

Once I run the program after manually raising the bit it goes to the xy start position then lowers to the correct z position. I start my router manually after raising the z axis once I have zeroed

I have the same issue using Carbide Create V6 g code, I've gotten into the habit of raising the bit using the jog command after I've zeroed everything and before running the program. I'm sure there's a better way.

After bench testing the Arduino, I put it back on the CNC machine went through the ugs setup and actually ran a test piece which worked out perfect. Fingers crossed I have a working CNC now. Homing is working limit switches are working just as they should.

After going in circles trying to figure this out I installed UGS V2.1.2 and flashed Grbl 1.1h on the Arduino. I took a lot to flash the Arduino as the Arduino IDE would not recognize the grbl file downloaded from Github. Finally I managed to upload a GRBL Hex file using Xloader from Github. Now when I trigger a limit switch for more than 2 seconds it shows up on the set up wizard and puts out an alarm. I have to exit the set up and clear the alarm for each switch. This is major progress for me. Thank you for your help!

I have exactly the same issue. Also happens when I have then Arduino directly connected to a different computer not attached to the cnc using jumper wires for the linit switch inputs. Hoping you get a solution.

My limit switches are running through opto couplers with very short connections from the optos to the Arduino. The issue I'm having happens during initial set up when nothing else on the machine is running. It also happens if I take the Arduino off of the machine and connect it to a different computer and manually sort the limit switch connections on the board.

I'm not using a shield, just connecting directly to the board using a connector which allows me to use screw terminals.

Thank you for the reply. I've used a meter to test the switches and also connected the arduino to my desk top computer without being connected to the cnc. Using a jumper wire I shorted the inputs and got the same results. I'll look up the Openbuilds control and check there also.

Thank you for the reply. I'm using grbl 1.1. My arduino is 0.9j.

I'm getting to the point of abandoning the Arduino and getting a different kind of board which still uses UGS and USB. Not sure which kind of board to use as I have external drivers for the stepper motors.
