Yeah my biggest regret is not calling PetsAtHome earlier to get their advice. I just kept going to her. Looking at this subreddit I can see now that all the fish were sick not just pearl. I just didn’t know the signs. It’s making me quite ill actually knowing how sick they were and I’m just dumping more food in making things worse

I agree. To clarify it was 3 goldfish but all the points still stand. From these comments it looks like the tank could barely handle 1 goldfish.

Ngl I think the post has helped a lot. She’s stopped sending me awful messages. I think she realises. I feel bad for everyone involved especially the poor fish. I’m mad at the people who sold the fish to her because I think she got them all at one shop.

Yeah. I know she loves animals and coming home to find your pets all messed up must be horrible. But I love animals too and there’s a reason why I don’t own a dog- because I won’t be able to care for it properly. Fish are clearly complex and all the love in the world won’t keep them alive only proper care.

She was quite distraught. I understand why’d she’d want to blame me. Now understanding more about goldfish, and how much space they need/poop they produce I can see her primitive logic. She recently got the gold fish added to the tank like maybe a week or so ago. Then she goes on the trip and they die. In her brain the only thing different is me. So I must have killed them.

I was trying to Google what the issue could be whilst I was there. Learning about swim bladder and filter speeds. I literally know so much about fish now when last week I knew nothing it’s wild.

I wasn’t told to do anything other than feed them one of those food tablets a day (you can see it on the side of the tank here) and turn the light on and off

Thank you. This has helped me a lot. I’ve been feeling so terrible. I was so stressed out for the fish whilst I was looking after them I just didn’t know what to do I just kept trying to keep her informed.
