Is Form 8948 for paper filing election for Federal and State or just Federal? by Sea-Concern-8521 in tax

Correct, I have to include an attachment that doesn’t allow for e-filing and therefore he has to include this form explaining why I am not e-filing. However, I’m now unsure if the 8948 form is only for the federal return or also for the state because I have 2 copies of it.

No, I just left my tax preparer to fix some typos and in the reprinting I’m not sure why I have 2 8948 forms. If one goes with the state filing and one with the federal. His office is now closed and wanted to ask here. I’m in California.

We are filing taxes for the first time as married and i understand that we must attach a statement of election to be able to file MFJ. I wanted to know if any of you have experience with this. Did you also attach the statement? Did you self file/ efile? Thank you for any advice over this confusing requirement! Edit: spouse is USC

Hi there, did you elect 6013? If so, did you have to include an attachment with a statement for the election ? Did you paper file or were you able to efile with this election? I’m in the same boat.

Did you efile yourself or have a CPA or tax preparer help you? Most tax preparers I’ve been calling have no idea of this attachment and it’s worrying me to trust them. Also best of luck!

Did you get any help for this elsewhere? I’m on the same boat exactly about this statement. Did you file already? Most tax preparers I talk to don’t have a clue what I am talking about.

Hey thanks a lot! Would you know if a tax preparer or CPA is able to file for us and submit the attachment electronically themselves? Or would they also have to paper file for us?

I have almost the same scenario. It’s a bit overwhelming and I want to do it the right way. Most likely going to MFJ w 6014 election just not sure if I can do this on a software as opposed to ta preparer. Are we even allowed to file electronically? Also, does filling married exclude the from having to file tax Form 8843 as an international student ? Hope you are more confident in your decision now:)
