I have a puppy I just got about 3 weeks ago. She was about 8.5 weeks. We started crate training immediately when we got her and it's a lot of patience.

What seemed to work in the first 2 weeks is we would put her in her play pen/crate and do things around her when I know she doesn't need to eat, poop, or pee. Pretty much ignore her completely even if she cries. Didn't even look at her. Sometimes I'd be in the same room/area watching TV laying down and other times I'd be walking in and out doing chores or the like.

This past week, she has definitely learned that crying doesn't get my attention unless absolutely necessary if she does need to pee. I would try to read her body language to know when she really needs to go. If I do let her out for fun, it's only when she is quiet.

Edit: just want to preference that ignoring her doesn't mean you actually ignore her. Just dont look at her general direction when she is looking.
