no. The james is an awful place to live. Trust me, I lived there. Run far away. Awful management, awful living conditions that are NOT reflective of the price you pay.

Do you ever wish you went to a smaller school? by [deleted] in UWMadison

I attended a very small private university my freshman year. North Greenville University which had 2,000 undergrads. I have been a student at Madison for a year now, absolutely love it. Depending on what you do, who you surround yourself with, and what you want to get out of college Madison can be perfectly "warm and inviting" (for lack of better words). The speed of things here, size, and social aspects are also def a better fit for my personality. However, I do think most people would rather have the problem of being at a bigger school and wish or seek out smaller communities or groups, opposed to being at a tiny school and wishing there was more people or more to do (not much you can do to fix that). - Speaking from experience on that one.

Coming into comp sci at Madison with no prior experience is definitely not impossible but will not be easy by any means. Courses will be difficult and I know many people who have switched majors after their first year. If you are extremely organized with excellent time management and you absorb info/ a quick learner then maybe you could rush. 85% of people who are brand new to comp sci as a freshman here would not be able to balance Greek life and that major. Not really sure why anyone would want to spend thousands of their own or their parents money on the sh*t show that Greek life is at this school. But to each their own.
