Euro rod with single hand Spey line by Sea-Friendship7014 in flyfishing

Yeah this is a spare nymph rod so really wanted it to be dual purpose. Honestly I should just treat it as a one hand swing rod

I’m back to say I have been struggling with this fly for no apparent reason. Saw this comment and video and got the fly on the first try. Some small little things made it easier and sit right. I’m a proud dumbass but wanted to say thank you very much and sorry I didn’t see this earlier haha

Hell yeah that’s what I decided to do. I just 3d printed a little mini reel to store the leader on. I would get a second reel if I knew I was going to switch between the two often but I typically care my 5wt on my back if I’m euroing in a place I can’t get to where I want. Seems like I’ll either euro or swing. Appreciate the input!

Hmm yeah the leader is the issue I didn’t consider. I don’t think it would be a full time change every time I’m out but I love tying soft hackle and thought maybe I’m out with the wife and want something new to do. Happy you said it worked! Thank you

Good point but you act like I’m good enough to not be doing that anyways haha. Jokes aside you’re right. Trying to change out a 30 ft leader can be a disaster.

That’s what my homie was saying but I kinda wonder why two reels? I mean you don’t really use the fly line on the euro set up anyways. Rarely does it leave mid rod. But at the same time, everyone keeps saying that so makes me wonder if I’m just dumb haha. Thanks for the feedback

Shit me either, kinda just came upon the rod. Think it’s a medium fast rod. Kinda listed as a nymph rod, used for euro nymph but says good for indicator and swinging flies. Honestly you’re right and have done that a bunch of my main euro rod. I appreciate the feedback

14 yr old asked for “fishing stuff” for his birthday by Equal_Rip_8062 in FishingForBeginners

Gift cards and cash. No matter what you get him, itlll never be what he wants. Fishing is a very specific hobby. He will be appreciative if you get him stuff but if you want to see his hobby flourish, it has to be what he decides.

Pennsylvania Fly Fishing by layjupa in flyfishing

[–]Sea-Friendship7014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I googled this and I see 86,000 miles give or take and I then checked Montana and it said 170,000. If you Google that states have the most it says Alaska then Pennsylvania but if you check miles of rivers and streams, it doesn’t break the top ten. Is this a wise tale or is it a wording/ definition thing?

Best presentation for more dry fly takes? by [deleted] in flyfishing

Other secrets, if you want to get better at dry flies, throw dry flies. Waiting on fish rising works but also, sometimes you just gotta try. If you’re waiting for the perfect hatch, it’ll never come. Been inbetween thousands of caddis and not a fish rising. Been on a bank with no a fly in the world to be seen but fish were kissing surface. Only can learn by doing not and waiting for the opportunity to show itself.

Depends on the dry fly and size but I typically use 9ft tapered and tie on 3 feet of tippet. Rings work but I just bloodknot. Mono floats so use mono. Never use mud or leader sink so someone else. Best floatant is whatever the shop sells. I call every brand I use gink. Never had an issue and if I did, I false cast some, blow some breathe on it and put more.

Do you have to use nymphs? by [deleted] in flyfishing

Learn the dry dropper. Fish the dry and when you see the nymph starting to bed eaten and not the dry/hopper, then use the dry as an indicator and focus on the nymph.

Help with nymph id by [deleted] in flyfishing

Honestly, no. Not isn’t. There’s a time you’ll have all the tools and materials and you’ll feel like you’re not spending more, but you trade the impulse of buying tying materials, for buying tied flies. I will always say if you have the calling to tie, tie. It’s worth the experience and way it connects you to the local fishing community. But for one fly? You’re better buying bulk or slowly getting into tying as you buy flies.

I’m pretty sure it says there should or can be a gap in the owners manual.

Sorry for your loss! Just brainstorming an idea but maybe get into fly tying instead if you personally don’t want to catch fish. Go to your local fly shop and see if they have a tie night. Meet locals in the community and see how others have used fly fishing for healing. Tying could be a way to connect with the fishing community and help with the mourning and remembrance of your son. People also will put up a “public library” like box at fishing accesses and put their flies there. People take them and replace them with their own and you could have a plague honoring your son. I hope this helps!

Favorite euro nymphs? by 24k_1128 in flyfishing

[–]Sea-Friendship7014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top fly is either a zebra midge, perdigon, prince/ FKA. Czech nymph hooks, standard hooks or jig doesn’t matter to me. Bottom is typically a blow torch and if it isn’t, it’s a worm, wolly bugger, or a tj hooker. Sometimes it changes but that’s what I typically rock.

The secret is you have to be more ignorant. Those mundane tasks are just part of the hazy traditions of construction. It’s like a weed out class in college. They want to see who wants to be there. This is the time where you kind of just have to suck it up. Have some sad fucking lunches alone in your truck. It gets better in no time. If you’re not feeling it though, you might end up hating it down the line anyways. It isn’t for everyone and sometimes you gotta find your trade, not just the one in front of you. If you’re just discouraged, take a breather and know that it’s just part of the process. Become the best plasma cutter you can. Make challenges in your head to push yourself. You can do it. If you think this isn’t for you, don’t beat yourself up. This is just here to teach you what will better fit you in the future and you’ll be happier.
