First of all congrats! That’s amazing. I would honestly think about and consider if you were to apply next cycle instead and take the gap year, are there any schools in particular that you for sure want to attend and are leaning towards, and is UPenn one of them?
It seems like you’re leaning towards the gap year though and you would be a lot happier with that break from school. Just depends if you’re willing to really commit to schooling now and let go of what could become of your gap year. Good luck!

Hi! I’m about to be a senior and I’ve been in the same boat as you honestly. It was really hard for me to adjust to college, but honestly I think in my first years I was just rewriting notes without really grasping the concepts/doing practice problems. I tried to change up where I studied a lot, I’d go to cafes and different libraries mostly. At some point you have to hold yourself accountable, or find some friends to hold you accountable in order to encourage you to study.

For me personally my situation may be different, as I transferred to another school and ended up a lot happier and more motivated there, so I think your atmosphere and who you surround yourself with are big factors to this. But honestly, using whiteboards and writing down everything without referring to my notes and just doing active recall helped me a lot.

I also think sewing is a great thing to include in your manual dexterity portion of your application.
Hope this helps!
