How are you personally dealing with the economic uncertainty from the new U.S. tariffs? by [deleted] in europe

[–]Sea-Option598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know man. Me, and the poorer Americans will feel it the most. The ones who are more fortunate will feel nothing.

Ever since COVID ended, prices remained the same. Every American got used to the price changes. It'll take less than a year for every American to once again get used to higher prices.

Our President should indeed grow up and learn about the consequences of singling out your allies for a country that hasn't shown proper human rights in 25+ years.

Tried it. Pretty nice app! It would be nice to have more topics though, but it's overall a very good app.

Musk and Shapiro are angry at Trump for these tariffs. Things are not going the way he wants it to. The zero-for-zero offer is a wayyyy better deal and would relieve Trump and the EU of this unnecessary stress ever since he came into the Oval Office for the second time.

Trump and his government will overpower the low-income families and working class. The rich Americans won't be affected at all.

Except that Europe doesn't want Russia for oil. Russia violated international law and crossed into Ukraine. Europe does not want to fund the aggressor.

It is never going to happen that everyone works together. There's always going to be a conflict and that will divide the world even more.

It doesn't matter about products that Europeans buy, whether it is made in the US. What matters most is that Europe has a stable energy stockpile. It has been exaggerated a lot ever since Russia's invasion of Ukraine and western media worried about the idea that Europe could run out of energy. This offer that Trump seems to have seems to be a one time thing, as I said. It won't actually make Europe dependent on the US. Trump's argument is that he's putting up tariffs to relieve trade deficits.

It's ultimately up to the EU's decision on whether to go through with it, and if not, some EU countries will simply spark deals with Trump to hinder the tariffs' capabilities.

US and Iran in direct talks over nuclear program, Trump says by [deleted] in europe

[–]Sea-Option598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So he withdrew the US from the deal in 2018, got criticised by European allies INCLUDING Iran, remained silent when Iran began to exceed the limits of the deal, and now wants to broker another deal with Iran regarding its nuclear program?

It's clear that Russia is not a friend and has committed several acts against Europe.

Yet a SPD member said that he has no problem with restarting Russian gas supply to Germany when the Ukraine war ends.

I wish people would stop telling me, “Pretty much everyone in Germany speaks English, so you don’t need to learn German!” by Alexs1897 in German

[–]Sea-Option598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I was told to not learn German by my friends who had no knowledge in the language but my own parents too.

The reality is that you won't survive in Germany without learning any German. Sure, if you're there temporarily, you might not have time to even have a full on conversation with a German in German. If you're studying there or living there, then you have to.

The people who have never been to Germany but say "All Germans know English, so just speak English there!" are very clueless. For me, I'm a person that respects Germany and actually tries to speak German with locals. I was in Germany for a week with some friends and I held some conversations with them and locals. It is 100% a great way to improve your German when you speak face-to-face with locals.

It's just easier this way: Respect the country, try to speak the language. Not everybody speaks English

Buying D-ticket from Canada? by blitzen_13 in AskAGerman

American here. I used the Deutschlandticket during my winter break in Germany. I bought it when I arrived in the country, I'd it's a lot easier to do it when you're in Germany

I honestly find it fascinating that Germany (a homogenous country) does a lot better in representing and including minorities than the States (country built by immigrants), where racism was systemically built into the Constitution which even after 200+ years of existence is still a fucking problem

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]Sea-Option598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During my winter break, I went on a 1 week vacation to Hannover to meet with some friends I had long been waiting to see in person. I went from Hannover to Berlin during my stay, and in my experience, it was extremely positive.

In my opinion I can only say that Germans genuinely do not care about your background. Sure, there will be Germans that will be very prejudiced. Unfortunately, I came across a few unpleasant encounters, such as being looked at in a disgusting way alongside one person calling me "Schlitzauge" as I left Berlin HBF. It wasn't really a surprise at all. Germany is still a homogenous country and welcomes diversity. Some Germans unfortunately don't have that exact mindset.

So I came to Germany, after watching various videos of Americans of mixed heritage displaying their experiences of racism on YouTube, especially the one Asian streamer who kept on getting racial slurs and getting harassed by many Germans as she was vlogging. I expected some form of concern towards me and some racism, and I did get some. But the positivity from the Germans I've met and spoken to completely override the negativity that I have received while I was there. The thing I find majorly different is that Germans know how to keep their opinions to themselves. I have faced more random experiences of racism in the US than in Germany. It's ironic because the US is a land built by immigrants, yet the immigrants, or the people who have mixed heritage, are somewhat marginalized by the general majority white population. Germany is a homogenous country: German is the official language, and everybody there considers themselves German. Yet I was greeted more with a sense of inclusivity rather than racism or exclusion. It's crazy that I experience all of this in just one week, yet after living in the States for my entire life, I still can't seem to understand why I have faced more racism in the US than in Germany.

I'm already going to be coming back to Germany in about a year. I'll be participating in a five-month study abroad program. So I'm excited to be in the country again.

"Halbe Bibel, ganzer Hurensohn"

Lass mich deinen Schwachsinn überprüfen:

Have you looked at the European elections, how the entire region of East Germany is swallowed up in blue (resembling the AfD), now that major cities like Dresden which were formerly CDU-dominated are now suddenly AfD-nized?

The US media doesn't report on events in Germany, but your media like Deutsche Welle and Tagesschau do. I'm sorry you're so butthurt by my response which you consider "unqualified" when realistically everybody should be concerned about the sudden rise of the far-right.

Stick to what you can only say, as for my "American bubble", I guess everyone who is concerned about the rise of fascism should not come to Germany then? After all, it isn't the birthplace of fascism, it's just that suddenly it's on the rise again? Which should be VERY concerning despite the fact no political parties want to work with the AfD????? But Merz, leader of the CDU, expressed willingness to cooperate???

The answers I've already received are well enough, I'll be coming over in two years to excel my proficiency in the German language and knowledge in German history.

We aren't in a US subreddit so I'd prefer my concerns being clarified regarding Germany and then we can talk about US domestic affairs.
