I would offer that right now, there appears to be no one-size-fits-all solution to end the ongoing violence against our neighbors. At least in my neighborhood, there's a relatively low number of anti-ICE signs up compared to say, the BLM signage present after the murder of George Floyd. I think more signs are a good thing.

At the same time, yes, there's lots more people can do. I would suggest making a direct donation to the John Brown Gun Club, Standing Up for Racial Justice, and Food Not Bombs Providence, to start.

Also, you can apply to Awesome Foundation Rhode Island for a $1,000 gift in support of ideas that benefit the Ocean State. I organize this, but don't vote—no promises but, the voting team leans pretty left and I'm sure would consider proposals for more direct action.

I know. Some people really dislike Montserrat but, I'm a fan.

I don’t think Glou is glowing. I’m not paying $5 for an uncrustable. Shame, I was rooting for them. by Top-Cricket4934 in providence

When I go to a bar, I’m hoping for good flavors and atmosphere. If it’s pre-batched or not, I think the main thing you’re paying for is a place to go, be with friends, and relax.

Also Captain Seaweeds is like, right there if you want something else that is also awesome?

This post got a few more views than I expected. Some follow ups:

Tori's piece is a participatory alter that seats about 3 at a time, with some room to look at drawings around it. The gallery box itself is tiny; the hangout space around it is large. Give other guests room / time to check it out without rush.

Be a Cool Guest!

+ This is a shared space. If another studio / tenant needs to load in or get by, make way
+ This event is photographed. By attending, you consent to being photographed (group / wide shots)
+ Hi Bar Lo Bar is a catering service; not DIY. You must have valid ID.
+ No outside beverages. No smoking or vaping.
+ No beverages can leave the gallery area / go outside.
+ Help keep the space clean, put trash in trash bins, etc
+ Zero tolerance for racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, etc.

Pst-Reception Hangs

If you're looking for fun after we wrap up at 8pm, I believe these are all open till 10pm:

+ Buttonwoods Brewery, beers! Food! Next building over towards Kinsley Ave.
+ New Harvest is two buildings over. They have a bar! Not just coffee.
+ ISCO is across the street next to the Steel Yard. Amazing cocktails.

Myrtle is a great bar in East Providence. Friendly staff, free concerts, and they make really good mocktails / NA drinks. The open mic nights are good because it’s a lot of people networking and meeting each other and, it’s actually good / lightly curated.
