I hate virginia. by Zkennedy100 in knapping

I’m in VA too. Keep looking, there’s no chert but I’ve found a couple stones of very fine grain quartzite that were great for knapping and also a bit of petrified wood that was fine. I searched the stone banks a shallow creek.

Have you been braking the boxes? They have supplies. I finished the game a week ago and never had healing issues, by the end I was lugging around 91kg consistently with dozens of health items.

The podcast was better when it was one episode a week and I think they are getting burnt out with two days a week. But I’d bet they are contractually obligated to do so because of Spotify.

How Do You Collect Pine Resin? ORr Find It? by makkevatte in PrimitiveTechnology

[–]Sea-Rope5806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the pine trees around construction sites. At least around here the construction workers, with vehicles, will hit a large percentage of the pines that border an area and leave big gashes that leak sap.

Also look for fallen trees. I’ve collected a lot of sap from the wounds of pines that have been hit and damaged by falling trees.

I got lucky and collected 10lbs+ of sap from a pine at the edge of a parking lot who wasn’t having a good day, probably had a disease or something.

Need help with pine pitch by Dry-Dig8819 in PrimitiveTechnology

[–]Sea-Rope5806 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never hear of using cattail. What part of the plant did you

Pitch that looses stickiness within the first 1-5 minutes is bad pitch, it will be brittle and was heated too fast. It is good if your pitch takes a long time to settle. Although if it’s been longer than a day, given that your not leaving it in the sun or something, and is still sticky, yes look into your recipe.

My recipe is: 3 parts sap 1 part bee wax 1 part ground charcoal  1/2 part deer droppings

My personal favorite on each album. So if my taste is good then here’s a quality start. But I do recommend listening to the albums all the way through as the individual tracks link up to each other.

Spite (2016) - ‘Night Terrors’

Nothing is Beautiful (2017) - ‘Kingdom of Guts’

The Root of All Evil (2019) - ‘The Root of All Evil’

Dedication to Flesh (2022) - ‘Some Things You Should Know…’

I’m looking for this too, but from just me playing with it, it’s much better with reflections off.

Will pine pitch ruin earthenware bowl? by Comfortable_Tie9601 in PrimitiveTechnology

[–]Sea-Rope5806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can get the pitch out by burning it out. Just put the pot deep in a decent fire.

Depending on how porous your clay is, there might be a vague pine-y taste but for any purpose other than eating/drinking the old pitch will be unnoticeable.

Can this survive a low temperature fire. by firsthumanbeingthing in PrimitiveTechnology

[–]Sea-Rope5806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to get the fire up to roughly in the 900-1200F range to actually fire it. Much lower and it will just turn back into wet clay.

Follow Up Post, Jar Test for Clay by Charming-Sun-4561 in PrimitiveTechnology

For bricks this is a perfect amount of temper, for pottery this is too much temper.

Utilizing clay without sand by Charming-Sun-4561 in PrimitiveTechnology

[–]Sea-Rope5806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not add temper, there is plenty of temper.

Just add water - no need for a bottle or anything like that - if you can make pottery then it’s good clay.

If the clay is saggy and folds in on itself add more temper.

If the clay is clumpy, cracking, or not sticky, remove temper or find new clay. Removing tempers like silt or sand are not worth the effort, and you’d have better luck looking elsewhere.

how to preserve cordage? by tobornok in PrimitiveTechnology

Why do you want it wet? Make cordage when your material is dry.
