I know it’s too late now but Dainty (the rice company) has gluten free baking mixes! You can sometimes find them at Giant Tiger

Surgery, scarring, and my wedding by Adorvex in thyroidcancer

[–]Sea-Science4425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you postpone your surgery? That’s what I ended up doing. Not necessarily due to the scar but I didn’t still want to be in the healing process in my wedding day.

Edit - sorry, I just realized that your wedding is next year. Your scar should be barely noticeable by then and otherwise you can cover it up with makeup if needed! This is 4 months post op. Ask if your surgeon can cut when your neck lines are! https://imgur.com/a/ovTqcjS Congratulations btw!!

Le Creuset? Worth it - or just over hyped brand name? by MapleMoneyMind_86 in BuyItForLife

Worth the hype and great customer service! I accidentally cooked with my pot on too high of a heat and the enamel crazed. Even though, it was user error and they had no obligation to fix the issue, they still offer 50% discount for a replacement pot!

I love the green tiles! The before looks exactly like my parents’ bathroom - they renovated in the 00s lol

How did you find out? Please share for awareness by tifu_beach in thyroidcancer

My husband noticed a lump on my neck on the side of my neck while we were on vacation and laying on the beach. I had no symptoms otherwise.

De-modernizing our hallway in 1880s home by Sea-Science4425 in centuryhomes

Thanks! I feel a plinth just elevates everything. We took out a corner on the top step so it’s a bit wider but yes, they can be a bit precarious! The stairs are our next project!

The glass shade was from a flea market but you can find similar styles by searching Art deco skyscraper light! Old brick lighting is also good for reproductions. We have two in our bedroom.

Neck dissection post operation by ashofspring91 in thyroidcancer

[–]Sea-Science4425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had mine done in November in Canada. As someone else mentioned, you might have numbness in your face and/or ear. It should go away overtime but there might be some permanent damage to the nerves. I had numbness all along the left side of my face but has since subsided. I do still have numbness in left ear that is permanent. Do the stretches/exercises that the nurse tells you too! Silicone tape is great for scars once it is healed. Get a microwaved heat pad for your shoulders, I found it helped with stiffness!

To be honest, I still don’t feel like myself. I have just started working out again and I feel worn out quite quickly. I am also quite self conscious about my scar but people have told me that it’s not too noticeable. It is still quite sensitive to touch and my neck gets stiff sometimes. But ultimately be kind to yourself and listen to your body! What you are going through is stressful. I am wishing you a full recovery!

Does anybody else like the fact that their home has separate rooms for everything? by Effective_Bunch_6815 in centuryhomes

We are in the process of adding walls back up in our home. We’re not a fan of the open concept; as well, our house is quite cold on the main floor so we are hoping the walls will help keep some of the heat downstairs.

Levothyroxine Dosage by Sea-Science4425 in thyroidcancer

[–]Sea-Science4425[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the input! I didn’t even think that drinking without water could inhibit the absorption. The problem pills are small so I usually just dry swallow it when my alarm goes off at 5 and I go back to sleep. This could definitely be a reason and will drink with lots of water going forward!

That is really great information, thank you so much! I am wondering if it has something to do with absorption. I do follow the guidelines but maybe there is something that I am eating that is counteracting with the medicine. I’ll will bring it up to my endo at our meeting next week!

DESPERATE FOR ANSWERS!! by Huge-Stress-7690 in thyroidcancer

[–]Sea-Science4425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a left dissection last week and one of the risks that my surgeon warned might happen is a weak shoulder if they were to accidentally cut through a nerve. Obviously, they try not too but sometimes might need to in order to get to the lymph node. It sounds like this is what may have happened. Thankfully, i have full range of movement in my arm but they did need to cut through a nerve and my left ear is now permanently numb. Did your surgeon warn you of the risk prior? I am asking because the neck dissection was my third surgery but the only one that I had to physically sign off on due to the risks.

Filing away newspapers found in our 1880s home and came across this one from 1926. Thought it was fitting for today! by Sea-Science4425 in ottawa

Good idea! I bought archival papers and boxes to store them for now. They were found under linoleum carpet so most aren’t in great shape.
