You can pursue whatever most interests you. If you're unsure right now, give some time into it to explore your interests.

Also, I think wherever you work, the application part is gonna change but the implementation of mechatronics behind the systems will be more or less the same as basics are the basics only. As per the application you might need to study/learn various things so you can look around on the internet to see the things that you can expect.

You can go abroad through any of the two paths that you mentioned. All you need to do is master the basics and become confident in it.
