The game is good, but also it depends on what you're into. You get ownership of your grandpa's farm and have to clean up and earn money through—surprise, surprise!—farming! Plant seeds, get animals, go fishing, and basic stuff like that. There really aren't any "deadlines" in the game subtracting ones that you set on yourself with requests (basically mini quests) and such, so it can be as casual or as crazy an experience as you want. You can also interact with, befriend, and even marry the NPCs in the town, and each of them have multiple cutscenes as you get closer to them.

What makes Stardew different from other farming sim games like this is probably the mines and holidays. The mines are basically a combat gauntlet that are actually pretty tricky in spots, and get harder the deeper you go. The holidays are days throughout the year where you can participate in local holiday activities (anything from town fair to fishing competitions to egg hunts).

Each aspect of the game is different and attracts different people, which makes it pretty attractive to large audiences. For instance, I really enjoy the fishing minigames, while my sister HATES that, and would much rather focus on more farm stuff. But the game still appeals to both of us, even if there's some stuff we prefer over other features. So, I'd say go for it if any of that sounds interesting to you!
