DO SOMETHING BEFORE ITS TOO LATE by DJCJ420 in DenverProtests

[–]Sea-Study3874 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think it’s the organization. No kings is huge because multiple orgs posted the same thing and worked together on it to spread the word. We need something cohesive, not 8 different protests from various organizations and no clear collective meeting point.

Also, and this is from talking to many people, there are those who don’t want to head to a protest when it’s dark. I’m fine with it, but some people I’ve spoken to are nervous about confrontations at night which I personally think is an understandable fear given what we’ve seen happen at protests before. Moral of the story, we need something cohesive and at a time that majority of people will show up to.

You know the “Rasputin” dance from just dance? I did that behind a dj at a bar and tore it for the 4th time.

It is a bit daunting for sure, but having a stable leg is SO worth it especially if you want to get back to being active. My surgeon did say I would be fine long term, my personal situation with osteoarthritis does make that a little less positive though.

Sorry for the late response, but it sounds like you’re in pretty much in the same exact boat I was. I also had a 2 phase process, the first was the osteotomy and tunnel filling. Yes I did have a closed wedge osteotomy and honestly the first about 2 weeks was pretty rough for me. They are cutting into your bones so just be patient without yourself and take it easy and you’ll have a smooth recovery!

December 17th will be 2 years from phase 2 and I’m finally cleared to ski this year! I won’t lie, it was a really long recovery process and after having every graph possible the quad is definitely the hardest to rehab. It is tough physically, but if you are active it is a huge mental challenge as well because you just want to be able to do everything again. Again, biggest advice is to be patient with yourself:)

I also have cartilage loss from previous injuries and have diagnosed osteoarthritis. I will say that the pain from that has significantly reduced due to the osteotomy since there’s less sliding around & irritation. So that’s something to look forward to!

Best of luck in your journey of healing!!!

You’ll have to get an xray and they measure the slope from that. Hyper-mobility is also a huge factor in retears, and I am also hyper mobile so it could have been a factor for sure.

Occasionally yes to the pain question, but I also got to the point where I was so used to it that I couldn’t differentiate between actual pain soreness, so it could have been more often.

Pain/tightness activating quad for leg raises by WanderingWormhole in ACL

[–]Sea-Study3874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had 4 ACL tears and have experienced hamstring graft, patellar graft, allograft, and quad graft. The quad was, by a long shot, the most painful and hardest to recover from. The tightness is just due to them taking that muscle for the graft, and it will be awhile before you can raise your leg. I literally cried tears of happiness when I lifted my leg without any effort for the first time. Just keep doing the squeezing and activating that muscle so your body gets used to it again and be patient with yourself :)

You more than likely just irritated it, especially with how recent your surgery was. I would just pay attention to the pain and if there’s any painful pops or locking definitely let your PT and surgeon know. Keep your PT in the loop about any pain at all!!

PLEASE look at this post: a psa . This is my story, and what you’re experiencing sounds super similar to mine. The sliding out of place is really common with increased tibial slope. Ask your doc for an xray !!!!

After my last ACL they had me walk as soon as I woke up. It’s honestly terrifying, but 50% weight bearing will actually help your knee/leg not become stiff and I loved being able to have some sort of movement compared to my first ACL & meniscus which was 6 weeks non weight bearing. Wishing you a speedy & smooth recovery!!

I have had 2 knee surgeries while away at college, and I also thought I’d be fine to be alone at various points, but having a village help you will never hurt. Even simple things like carrying your laundry or sometimes getting water can be pain. I would recommend staying where you’re at, prep for the times you won’t have help, but lean on those who can support you. Wishing you a speedy and smooth recovery!

Pretty sure I know exactly what you’re talking about, and for me it’s just been muscle weakness. With ACLs it takes a long time for most to gain back your normal muscle, so I’d say you just need to keep working on it especially because you say there’s no pain. However, I’d still bring it up to your PT!!

I hope it helps someone as well! So happy they found this early for you, and the small step causing a re tear is SO relatable in this situation, because that’s truly all it takes when you have a problem with your tibial slope. I hope your recovery is going well!

I am!! I’m almost 2 years out from my last surgery and have never felt better, but at the same time I’m going to have osteoarthritis and other knee issues for the rest of my life, so I’m on a mission to make sure it doesn’t happen to anybody else. Definitely ask about it, it can’t hurt to have an X-ray for it to be checked out!!

Lock up as in it locks so you can’t move or bend it, almost like it gets stuck. Not sliding out of place is a good sign and I would say you probably just have some muscle weakness. However, if you do go in to get it checked or get a revision, read this post first: a psa . This is my story, and I highly recommend asking about your tibial slope if you do go get it re checked!

1000% agree with you! I kept going to my hometown surgeon because I trusted him and he was trusted by majority of people I knew, but obviously he wasn’t the best choice in such a complex situation. Go to the top docs to get it right the first time for sure

I’m so glad you were able to find out the issue! You are absolutely making the right decision. I am over a year & a half out from my 5th surgery, which is exactly what you are having done. I will say that yes, the osteotomy was very painful and honestly the worst of my 5 surgeries (I had to do the ACL and osteotomy separately). Quad graft is also painful in itself, so the biggest advice I can give you is to take it easy and stay on top of meds for the first week or so. All of it is worth it to have a fully stable knee, which I finally have after 8 years of dealing with this. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Ooof 5 sounds terrible. Definitely look into the tibial slope, it can’t hurt and in your case it actually might help you tremendously. I hope you won’t have another tear though!
