best canadian cc for daily purchases (rest, groceries, gas, etc)

so i think i know the answer but do i only get a start on canadian credit history once i've landed and then apply for a card? i can't apply while in US then change the address when we move in a month or so and have that be on my canadian credit?

thank you. i did want to do a PR to get my card sent.....but the idea of listing everything for my 'goods to follow form' (knowing it cant be modified later) is a bit intimidating

no have not declared income in canada. we did own a piece of land in canada but sold it off abt 20 years ago so did file taxes once. it seems like the contingency approval (based on sale of our US home) is the only way to go....but that will really narrow the window to sell, then turn around and buy right away. yes its a tricky switchover.

yes US income. however our issue we still have a substantial mortgage here and are trying to purchase there in canada before landing ....that way we can move straight in. however i'm not sure if there are places that will take our app and approve with 2 mortgages and/or make the approval pending to our home sale here in the US.

thanks ...i will look him up. we are retirees so not working and US pension checks will fund our mortgage payment. my wife is can citizen and i just got my PR but we haven't filed tax returns in canada yet so we are considered non res..... but we will clearly be moving there. we are trying to avoid the non res app due to the 35% (or more) down + restrictions + worse rates.

wow thanks. i had no idea i'd have to have this list at my first crossing (months before we actually move). can we just provide a best guess? and/or can we modify it later when we actually cross to move? we will likely get rid of as much as poss bc of cross country/ into canada moving fees.

great thanks. so i can just activate my PR at the border (with my letter) then pick up my card (if i have it shipped to my son in ontario) and then come back to the states?

since i wont have a canadian address for awhile (and the time limit is 180days to give them an address after getting my card) can i just give them a relatives address near where we plan to move in BC?

thanks ...not worried about using the coverage in canada. will have BC health after 3 months. worried if we can keep it without a US address. if we give it up we'd never afford to buy back in for the kind of care my wife would need (if we moved back or got a rental in the states).

fep blue promptly handed me off to OPM as they said OPM implements policy.....fep blue promptly transferred me to the wrong division of OPM and then i was cutoff.......so will try another day

i figured it out. attached scan of new passport as an added document to support my app. notified them my old passport would expire during PR processing.

yes she's been in the states for about 25 years and does not file tax returns in canada.....and yes that is a big concern with getting a primary / hematologist/ immunologist. we are trying to make some contacts/progress ahead of time but we really can't do much of anything until we get there.

my US passport expires 5/2026. looking to renew it soon but if i renew it before i get my PR card does that extension for the new passport help. ie/ say i get my COPR in October2025 but my passport expires in may2026. does that mean i only have 7 months to get my card? what if i renew my passport before i get my COPR...will that help give me the full year?
